I was thinking about doing this next year.
The question is, should I try to hook up with another couple so that we have four people and all pay $350 each, or should I put out the extra $100 to go with just me and my wife.....
While I am not poor, I always jump at the opportunity to save money, I am just not sure on this one....
I expect enthusiast sites are the only place I am going to find a couple my age (35) that is willing to do this. Most of our friends think we are nuts for how often we go to parks and the fact my wife rides all the coasters!

Just go in May or September and spend the extra money on Lighthouse Point. You won't need the VIP for rides, as he park is not that busy during those months.

I've seen the park pretty darn busy on Halloweekends in late September. Granted, not as busy as the middle of Summer, but I've stood in some pretty long lines. If you can afford it, I'd just drop the extra hundred. It would be worth it in my opinion. I plan on trying the VIP deal next year myself.
Ok - now I know I am really spoiled. We go in May (2nd Week) every year.
Why in the world do I feel the need to experience the VIP package..... fanatacism?
I have noticed the posts about Lighthouse Point, and that is now on my list of "must do" for next year.

IMO, the VIP package is a waste of money, unless the only time of the year you can visit is July or August. Then, it may be an option for some.

Sundays in May, September and October (especially toward evening) are generally pretty light, crowd wise. Especially during Halloweekends because the night time attractions are not available.
I have to agree with with DRose. If you were going on an especially busy weekend in late June, July and August I'd think it would be worth the money. If you want the "thrill" of feeling special and being given a personal tour of the park, it might be worth the money. If you simply want to avoid lines, I'd just go on a Sunday in early May and save the money for something else, like a nice, romantic dinner or an overnight in a jacuzzi suite.

I only get to CP once a summer now that I live so far away. And, this year my time happened to fall during the peak of August. So, I was going to do it for sure. No lines, relaxation, ride as many times as you want, etc etc etc.... Even when I go in June I get on maybe three coasters more than once. So, the VIP thing would be totally worth it to me.
The only reason I decided against it is because we're going two days now, so it wasn't really necessary. But, I think its a great concept.
I would agree with Mr Scott that on most days we have gone, the VIP would have been WAY silly...unless of course that "backstage" tour they gove you or whatever is worth it to you. Aside from Halloweekends, we have been very lucky last year and this year.
My recommendation? Go on opening weekend and stay for those first weekdays. EVERYTHING (including MF and TTD) is a walk-on. We got 6 straight front ro TTD rides with 5 minute waits this year on the first Monday.
Then you really feel like a VIP :)

Anybody ever go the last week of August, when a lot of the kids are back in school?
I was also thinking about going on the Sunday/Monday the week before labor day. How are the crowds this time of August?
I never like going at the end of the season. Sure, the lines are short - or non-existent. But, the park doesn't "feel" the same. I love going with massive amounts of people in the park. Well, I guess I should say a "lot" of people. But, with managable lines. It just adds to the atmosphere. When the park is dead, its just not the same. Its sorta like being on Martha's Vineyard after labor day. Totally different feel than during the depth of summer.
I made my first trip to Cedar Point the week after memorial day this year. I was very surprised at how short the lines were. I believe most of the Ohio schools are still in session, which explained the multitude of school busses in the parking lot. Most of the school kids left the park by mid afternoon (aided by a few thunderstorms) and the park was free an clear till 10 pm both nights. I believe the only ride I waited any substantial time for was TTD. So I'll agree that going at the time we did, the VIP pass would have been a waste.
My biggest dissapointment was MF was not in opperation both days we were there. My 7 year old still complains that she didn't get to ride it.
KYJoe, my thoughts excactly! When I went (June 6th, 2006) Sandusky was still in school. We only waited 10 minutes for most of everything. The sign for Raptor said a one hour approx. wait, a friend said, "It can't be that long." So we timed it and we waited only 20 minutes. But, my point is, go when the children are in school!

Jeff, you were there 6.6.06? That's the day that I went with my school on a field trip! Ha! Nice day, short waits. I just wish I'd gotten to ride Dragster that day... Ah, well.... :)
6/6/06 was the day we drove home from Cedar Point to Omaha. It was only supposed to take us 11 hours but it ended up being 18 hours :( I think the devil may have followed us back from CP. ;)

I gotta give MrScott credit, his posts are so well timed.

For many years I went to CP the thursday before Labor Day. Most kids were still in school and the crowds were light, with most people opting to wait until the holiday weekend.
The only reason I don't go on that Thursday anymore is because it's one of the busiest weeks for me at work and I'm not allowed to take the day off.
