What does this have to do for CP; well, a lot actually? For those of us coming from Michigan, this will stand out as the new halfway point for many people coming down I-75 heading to CP.
Many of you probably know about this project since it was started in 2001. The entire I-280 stretch has been widened and the new bridge is allowing new real estate to open up. The bridge's 8,800 foot span is scheduled to open to traffic in Spring 2007 (along with Maverick!!).
Construction of new bridges is always very interesting, especially a project of this size. ODOT's largest single project in history.
I've been following the construction of this bridge for a while through their website (http://www.lookuptoledo.org/) with webcams and project journal. not updated often, but still cool
Click on the link above to find out more information about the bridge.
If anyone has anymore pictures or any kind of news to share about this project, I'd be interested to see it.
For the first time, I'm actually looking forward to the 2 1/2 hour drive to CP next year. :)
NOTE: The webcam is very dark at night, but in the day time the webcams show the project at many different angles. Final truss of the bridge is going to be placed near the first of the year.

Its nice to see the US is getting more and more cable stay bridges. They really are beautiful pieces of engineering. The Millau Viaduct is probably the most amazing examples of a cable stay bridge in the world.
That's going to be a nice edition to the up and coming skyline of Toledo. Is it near the Cesar Pelli Owens Corning building?
I have been following this as well. I think it is going to be an awesome looking bridge and better then having to stop for the draw bridge.
TTD 120, I was getting off of I-75 at Washington street and taking that to Summit, were you just getting off at Summit 2 miles north of the Ohio border? Just wondering.
I am very glad to read this. The first time I went to CP in August 2003 I remember seeing extensive construction. I went to CP twice in 2004 but took a different way (via coach bus). I couldn't believe it when the construction was still going on when I took that route in 2005. In 2006 it was nice to see the bridge's shape taking place. I look forward to seeing the completed construction in 2007.
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete
I don't know about you guys... but Myself, and every other coaster enthusiast that I know has a fascination with bridges, buildings, and anything else with a nice structure!
Agree?
It's always great going on trips with my enthusiast friends, cause when we see a nice bridge, building, or another random structure, we just automatically stop and get out to take pictures. Traveling with someone who isn't an enthusiast just isn't the same... they think I'm nut's for most of the random things I like to do.
P.S. I'm quite excited for this new bridge as well.

No, after I get off of 75 onto 280, I take it to Greenbelt pkwy(seeing that's where 280 ends) and then just go to Lagrange st which takes you to N Summit and onto the bridge/280. It's a quick little detour.

Looks cool, never heard of it before. Looks kind of like the Sunshine Skyway bridge in Tampa. Those modern suspension bridges are amazing. Good to see Ohio is getting something other than an ugly grey concrete bridge.
