Vertigo single tower collapse

I find this amusing - do you think she meant "breaks" or "brakes?"  People are busted here on GTTP all the time for this type of stuff!

"With the mechanical inspection, we evaluate the structural integrity, the electrical system, the hydraulic system, the BREAKS, tubs, sweeps and warning signs of the rides," agriculture spokeswoman Melanie Wilt said.

I should hope they take a good look at the breaks if any are present, as well as the brakes!

Now that made me laugh!  :)

Mr. Skyward is my hero.
"Why don't you change your name to Mike?" "No way, why should I change my name, he's the one who sucks."

I am sorry if I offended anyone with my "tongue in cheek" post.

Change the words "Middle Eastern" to "Taliban" and if you have a problem with that email me.  This board does not need to be filled with this clutter.

Wow, I've been in hiding most of the winter :(

Anyways, what will happen when the GP crowd that knows the details about this incident looks up at WT and sees one of its towers swaying? Bet you they won't get on..

It just matches the superior journalistic integrity of statements like, "On Monday, both of these titles were challenged."

Small town papers suck.

Pretty sad when this can make front page headlines in New Castle, PA.  It's basically the same story from the Sandusky Register.  Seems as though more of the GP might find out about this than we thought.

Hey Tyler, do you think the collapse had anything to do with John Downing from Maintenance??? Ha ha!  I'll never forget the time he thought the security cameras weren't working because their batteries were low.

Hotel Breakers 2001

Does this have anything to do with magnum sinking? surely that would upset the ride's stability somewhat.

or has someone asked this before. i'm too lazy to read all the pages.

Not sure, you might want to ask the Lemon Chill Guy.

"On Monday, both of these titles were challenged."

Yeah that statement really pissed me off!

Could they possibly be talking about total construction of the ride Rob?  I'm guessing it took them awhile to actually plan and construct the ride at S&S.
According to ScreamScape... the official word from S&S is that it was a crack that developed in the off-season:

Andrew,

Your link does NOT work on this end...Is it a problem here, there, or elsewhere?

-----------------
"If we go any faster, she'll blow apart for sure!"

On GTTP, you have to remove the "guidetothepoint" in front of all URL's that do that. I don't know why this problem exists, but it does...
MrScott, and to any one else who has the problem, just copy and paste the url into your brower.

I just heard about this now and it is unbelievable. My guess is metal fatigue, or some type of fracture in the steel. To all those who vow they will never ride vertigo I don't understand why you would make this statement. You might as well say that you are never going to use steel again. All of the tall rides at cedar point are based on steel. Does that mean you are not going to feel safe on them? This is a freak accident and although I was not able to make a trip to CP after vertigo was raised, I will ride it next year, when it is back up.

I don't understand why some people feel the need to try and convince the people who don't want to ride vertigo anymore to do so.  You don't see them trying to convince you not to ride, at least I'm not.
