VERTIGO

I know this is a REALLY OLD subject but I dont really know what happened with the thing. I know it once exsisted because I saw it in a pic. but when I went to the Point it was gone. I have searched the internet but couldnt find out what happened to it.
Can you guys help me out with this one?

-Mike

About a year ago, one of the towers fell over. CP decided removed the ride, leaving the foundation as a reminder of where it once stood. If you look to the left and down while going up magnums first hill, you can see the old footers. The tower that fell over got sent somewhere to be tested, I don't know where it is now. The other two towers, the tank, and the cart are in the employee's parking lot on the mainland near the causeway. You can clearly see it if you look to the left when leaving CP through the causway.

I was about to go to CP before the season ended in 2001 so I could ride Vertigo, but decided not to because it would still be there for 2002. I was proven wrong...

I didnt want to start a new topic for this but I figured that this would fit in with the title of Vertigo since it is about the challenge park. The Challenge Park fees and Ripcord ,which I plan on riding this year as a first, all say $0 to ride them and I'm sure it will cost something but is it really true they will be $0?? Thanks
Where did you read that it would be free? It will cost you something, but I ain't sure on the exact price. You should go to www.cedarpoint.com to find out exactly. Ok, here is the exact link to the Challenge Park webpage.

http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/trips/tickets/pricesnew_challenge.cfm

Notice how it says "Prices to be announced"

Edit: Also, while by Ripcord, you can notice the footers. There are now benches there. It's weird to sit on the benches, and then remembering that you were riding something that was there last season.

Everything but the broken tower is still in the dorm parking lot. I should know, I visited it last weekend. On a related note, I really think CP could put this thing back up in a year or two. I've been talking to a lot of people lately, and I haven't found a single non-enthusiast who even knew Verti-Go existed or that a ride ever collapsed at CP.

I believe that they will put it back up. Why would they keep it on CP property if they weren't?

It has been stated several times. One of them being by Monty Jasper at Coastermania this past season that it will NOT be put back up.

I'm sure that once all the paperwork between S&S and CP is done, it will dissapear. You don't just throw things out when something like this happened.

I know, the footers have been grouted in. It's just annoying that I had the chance to ride it, but passed on it cause I thought I would be able to ride it this year.

It says $0.00.

I always have to respond to a Vertigo thread! It was hands down the scariest ride I've ever been on. I feel extremely lucky that I got so many launches on it before it came down. It really gave the term "airtime" a whole new thrilling definition. I remember during Millennium Mania when we were riding it for the last time that evening, and the ride op said "You guys have been here all day, let me give you some air..." he snickered after he adjusted our pins and told us "Four notches." On the way down, that tiny "banana seat" was crawling up my back and I had to hurry and reach between my legs and grab it with both hands so I would have somewhere to sit when it flipped back to starting position. Does anyone remember those scary velcro harnesses? Pure terror, and I loved every second of it.

Sorry for carrying on, but the mention of Vertigo always gets me fired up! :)

I consiter anyone that got even a single ride, a lucky SOB.

Speaking of the harnesses... the rumor mill says that one of the reasons for the more Spaceshot/Turbo Drop esque harnii (plural of harness ;) ) on the newer versions of the Absolutely Insane (name escapes me) is that some riders were able to obtain vests that were a size or two too big at VertiGone and the S&S folks wanted to make sure that didn't happen again. But that's just rumor.

I thought the ride was over-rated, and frankly kind of lame, and I didn't even have to pay for it.

Does anyone know where I can find a picture of Vertigo just so I could see what it looks like?
I was looking around at the photo galleries on CP's website and if you go to Misc. photos and go to the bottom and click on the photo Main Midway, that picture is another one of Vertigo when it stood there.
