Vertical Construction has Begun!

It looks like vertical construction has started on the spiral towards DT.  It seems that they are putting some of the support structure in place.

yeah, it looks like supports for horizontal track.  WOOHOO!

I decided to check out the webcam this morning and was happy to see that vertical construction has indeed begun. Somehow I knew if I came over to GTTP someone would have already posted about it though.

How did I know? :o)

This really shows how ahead of schedule they are! In Monty's latest entry, he says, "Actual steel erection should begin in late December..." Unless December 12th is considered "late" December, they are really ahead of schedule! He also says, "... and once that starts it'll be about two months until the ride is finished." So, Wicked Twister should be finished in mid to late February. They really got lucky with the weather!

I don't think it will be ready by February... I tihnk it will be ready before February.  I just watched them put up two support things for the back spike, and if they continue like that, they'll be done by January! I don't know... never watched an impulse be built before, guess you have to wait to install the LIMs and stuff.

I think by February the ride will be finshed. But, who knows how long it will take to get the LIMs and the computer working correctly. From what I hear, It takes a while!

The steel work is just a part of the construction. Don't forget, they need to put in all the power and control systems, something that they will probably do after all the steel is in place.

Unless they're seeing how the track aligns with the supports, I think they might start putting the track on the finished portion of the station supports. :)

Has there been a diary update lately? I could see them getting ahead of themselves if the steel hasn't been delivered. SUE went up in no time. With this warm weather, they've gotta be loving this. Test rides in February? Wouldn't that be interesting to see!

When I checked the webcam the other day I was hoping to find the diary updated. But, sadly not. Even after yesterday with the track out there. I hope to see an update in both construction photos and diary in the next few days!

2001 Magnum Crew

I don't know if anyone else noticed, but on the 13th it appeared they drug out 4 pieces of track.  One closest to the cam and 3 at the other end.  It also appeared as if they had wrapped two pieces in a tarp or something.  I was wondering if these are the LIMs and they need to be protected from the rain?  Once the station is built, they will be sheltered (so I assume).
