Or, according to CBS news, even safer than sitting in a lawn chair.

Okay, so when I go to Dorney on the 9th, should I avoid Steel Force? Or just ride in the front
hey! we'll be there on the 9th, 10th and 11th.
See ya there ;)
Those lawn chairs are dangerous. Out of no where they randomly fold up and you're stuck inside. A roller coaster has never folded up on me. No joke. :)

Can you trust what CBS News tells you about amusement ride safety? After all (in case you haven't heard), CBS owned five amusement parks... :)

I don't follow ride accidents all that closely, but was the Steel Dragon 2000 accident in 2003 related to this at all? I know it involved a wheel falling off, but that's all I know.
Do you think this could be a Morgan defect somewhere? Or, do you think its just two unrelated accidents? I'd hate to have this happen on Magnum.
The Steel Dragon 2000 accident was due to a wheel falling off. I'm not quite understanding what has happened with Wild Thing, I don't believe it is the same problem.
Recently, I did an extensive research paper on amusement park ride safety. It is true you have more of a chance of getting killed or seriously injured on your way to the amusement park than on a ride in the amusement park (along with other lawnchair comparisons). It is important to keep in mind that while you hear about this one accident, your not hearing about the other millions of rides that were given safely that day throughout the world. Since the only injuries that were obtained (or most) were minor, and mostly due to the seatbelt and harness, I think it is pretty accurate to say the safety systems acted properly.
I'm not defending the accident, it should have never happened. But the fact of life is that these accidents will happen no matter what parks do. They can't possibly make rides 100% safe. Its the same with every other aspect of life. The question I have is, could this have happened any other place on the ride? Interviewees kept saying, "It would've been worse if it had of happened on top." Could it have happened on the top? I'm slightly confused with the nature of the accident so I'm not sure, but it doesn't seem like it. It seems like it was limited to the brake run when other elements came into play. *** Edited 5/24/2006 10:10:31 PM UTC by Top Thrill 182***

I wouldn't worry about it since Magnum was designed by Arrow Dynamics (now part of S&S) not Morgan.
Goodbye MrScott
John
Apparently the accident was caused by a brake support bracket that failed:

Kind of a strange "failure" if you ask me...

AH HA - I knew Dave was getting close, with the brake hose thing - but - on these type squeeze brakes, if the hose burst or become disconnected would just not allow the brake to close and eventually give a low air alarm, it would not cause a catostrophic failure - follow the money !!!!!
