Using CP Ride Logos

With today's debut of Dragster, I was hoping to put the new flamed logo onto my 'Cruiser, along with the logos of other rides. My question is if there are any real copyright type of deals that I need to be aware of before I apply the vinyl to my car?

It's not a copyright, but a trademark issue. Surprisingly enough, I found no application for registration in the USPTO database, and the line art they distributed with the media kit doesn't even have a "TM" on it. That's not to say they couldn't defend it as a trademark, but they don't appear to be going out of their way to do so.

But anyway, some other members here even have the CP logo on their vehicles. I doubt they're going to sue him for that, but you never know. They have issued cease and desist letters to businesses (and kiddie Webmasters who don't have any common sense) using "cedarpoint" in the domain name of their site.

I'll bet the trademark application went out today.

Cedar Fair has a history of obtaining trademark protection for their newest rides, then ultimately allowing the trademark to lapse. I have long speculated that a trademark conflict might have been part of the reason Banshee got re-named.

CP (and Raptor) logo on their vehicle? Now who would do such a thing Jeff? ;)

I noticed on the 2000 CP calender the MF logo does NOT have a "tm" next to it. However the MF logos on the '01 & '02 ones do. I'd have to agree with Dave.

It's all about getting around the barrels, or over the fences, right leads, no faults, fastest time and looking pretty when done. What's so hard about that? :)

I doubt CP would sue if you use the logo for personal use...I dont see a point why they would want to do that anyway. Its really stupid, Its not like your doing anything bad with the logo...or taking it and saying its yours. Just showing your love for CP.

I wouldn't mind a simple MF "swoosh" tattooed on me... anything else is just too much, personally.

Even if I did get more done, I don't think I'd show them on TV for the world to see ;)

My boat has the old Cedar Point logo across the back and the name of the boat is "Cedar Pointer".
