The big sign over the main entrance still says, "New for 2006: Skyhawk". I'm guessing that will be repainted in the next couple weeks, now that the weather's nice again.

It always surprises me how much work they have left to do. I think when they started construction so early alot of us thought the ride would have been completely finished a month ago.
I've yet to go to a media event where the paint was still drying and the mulch was put down the day before. It'll get there, like it always does.

I think the main part is for the ride to be running. Like it was said in other threads, TTD was the only ride in recent years that was not to the point where it had to be at Opening Day.
Who knows how the testing on Maverick is going, but from all the pictures we have from the webcams it doesn't look like they're facing any major issues.
As for the rest of the stuff, landscaping and paint are the things that could possibly be pushed to the night before media day.
I personally think we're lucky that CP always opens new rides with the park each season. Many parks wait till Memorial Day.

Walt - Can you tell us what's going on in this picture? http://www.pointbuzz.com/Gallery.aspx?i=6453
I know everyone is going to say, "CP builds coasters all the time, they know what they're doing, they never miss anything, blah blah blah." But, to me, it looks like whatever this gray steel is was added after the ride was manufactured. It's obviously being welded on site, its not painted red, and there was no connection on the ride for these parts. So that leads me to believe it wasn't originally planned for. It looks like a "catwalk" to get to the train if it stops there and people need to get out. Do you know?
I know your asking Walt this question, but maybe I can help with this answer. Maybe when they were building Maverick, they didn't have catwalk available yet. It could have been on the list as far as pieces and parts to come. Maybe it was ordered but they may have had problems getting it in. I know that sounds dumb, but you never know.
That makes sense, but you'd think they'd put flanges on the actual ride to accept it. It just surprises me they wouldn't think of having a catwalk to evac people if required.
Yeah I was wondering what those things were at first glance. But it became evident after another pic.
Oh and there's a neat new video on youtube of an interview of Robin Innes from The Chronicle.

So, Jeff, are you saying that they always finish last minute things LONG before the media events?
Or, did you forget a part of a word?
Edit: Because I missed a whole page. It was early.
