Underground Tunnels?

I was just thinking if there were underground tunnels under the midways of Cedar Point. For employees to use to get to certain areas of the park quicker or something......??

-----------------

Not that I'm aware of... I'd say "no" because of the various stages that CP has been built in. Tunels would require a lot of digging or moving a lot of land. Been reading up on Disney World? ;)

-----------------

Yeah, there aren't any underground tunnels. It would cost CP a lot of money to build them. Although they sure would make it a whole lot nicer to get to lunch and back within the right amount of time during breaks.

The tunnels at Disney aren't underground. The tunnels are actually at sea level. The big lake in front of the Magic Kingdom was dug by man and the dirt piled on top of the first floor. Thus, when you walk down Main Street you are on the 2nd floor and the MK offices above the Main Street shops are the 3rd floor.

Other than the tunnels, there is a lot of other stuff including break areas, cafeteria, costuming, locker rooms, hair stylist, offices and much more. Stairs lead to various points around the park and "come up" out of view of the guests.

but there ARE areas for employees to go in case of weather problems...hint hint

Hmmm... A "basement" perhaps?

Ethier that or a Fall Out Shelter!

I seem to recall reading or hearing somewhere that underground tunnels are not feasable at Cedar Point due the fact that you don't have to dig too deep to hit water, which would make the cost of tunnels prohibitive. Can anyone confirm this? If it's not true, then the next coaster they build needs an underground tunnel.

Plus, is it really worth the huge capital expenditure to provide such a minimal change to the overall guest experience?

Idora Wildcat (teachers love snow days too!!!)

Idora - That is partially true. You don't have to dig down very far to hit bedrock. ;)

I'm going to play What if CP built tunnels. :)

If CP were to get "Disney Tunnel" then they would have to be "Disney Style" with the tunnels at "Sea Level" considering CP is not at sea level. CP would probably be closed for 5 years or so because in order to have tunnels on the first floor they would have to dissaseble everything on the point, store it someplace. Build the underground structures. Then go dig a HUGE hole someplace. Pay to transport it to CP, then dumping it and leveling the soil. This process would probably devastate the beach, unless CP built a wall in order restrain lake water to again have a beach. Then after the soil was leveled, they would have to reconstruct everything. By this time they've unfortunatly gone bankrupt from constant excessive contruction and no income because the park has been close for the past 5 or so years.

Well, that's kind of depressing. I think I'm happy with CP with no tunnels :) Yes, it would be nice.

Wow! That was very informative! :)

As an employee, I think having tunnels wouldn't be that great. I really enjoy walking around the park while it's open when I'm on my way to break or running errands or whatever, and seeing everyone working and playing and having a good time. Plus, I get to see all kinds of new and *interesting* people every day, and there's always something unique going on (for example the marching bands that stroll through the park playing music). Having to walk through some secret underground tunnel might be cool just because of the idea of it, but I would lose getting to see all the sights and sounds of the Point that one experiences while walking down the midways. For those reasons, I'm glad CP didn't/can't go the Disney way.

I do agree with that now. Yeah, it would be cool to walk around inside underground tunnels feeling like a secret agent....LOL....but there always is a deeper experince walking the midways of Cedar Point during the season. :) :)

ENJOY THE REST OF YOUR DAY HERE AT CEDAR POINT...AMERICA'S ROCKIN ROLLER COAST. *CLEAR*

There's a tunnel through the mountain on the Frontier Trail ;)

LOL.....yes, I know I will always remember that tunnel! During HalloWeekends in the Fright Zone, a monster came right out of the fog an INCH.....literally, from my face and scared the poo outta me! LOL! ;)

I got to see a lot of celebs in the Disney "Tunnel", including Michael Jackson more than once. They get moved around down there to avoid the mobs.

I also saw Mickey with his(her) head under her arm. That wasn't so great.

Magic Kingdom Utilidors, just in case there was some confusion, Disney World does not have an extensive tunnel system throughout the resort. Magic Kingdom has the only accessible "utilidors" as they call them. Epcot has a partially completed system that for the most part is not used. The Studios and DAK have bicycles to ride around the perimeter, no tunnels.

Mickey Mouse Decapitated himself, Wahoo? Oh no!!!! It's fun when costumed characters go behind the scenes. :)

Better watch out....Snoopy may be next! ;)

Been there....saw that. It's really freaky in the costume room in Camp Snoopy, your favorite cartoon character's head hanging from the wall. A tramatic experience indeed!
