Under 200ft?

Will we ever see another steel coaster at the park that is under 200ft. Ever since Power Tower opened in 1998 we haven't had an attraction built under 200 excluding Woodstock Express. We have PT, MF, Vertigo, WT, and #16.

I think there is a good chance #17 will be because my guess is that it will be a B&M Flyer and that would most definately be under 200ft.

I think we might. It all depends on what type of ride we get. If Cedar Point gets a flyer for instance, I would guess that it'd be under 200.
I have to dissagree I think that we prob will not go under the two hundred mark again since even if the next one is a flyer in two years or three years when it comes out I think that flyers will even be two hundred feet

I'm thinking maybe we might see like a wild mouse under 200 ft.

When/if they ever get the idea to put more wood in the park, maybe it'll be under 200. (of course that's wood and the question was about steel so I guess I fail the quiz! :) )

Dan didn't ask for a wish list.

But it is a good question, and with the precedent they've set, it's hard to say. I know that by now people like Kinzel know the value and excitement of a great small wood coaster. I think they totally overlook, however, the fact that a little park in the middle of nowhere Indiana has two of the highest rated coasters in the entire world, and the fame it brings them is working wonders.

Personally, I'm starting to get bored with new coasters every other year. (One of the reasons I'm not bothered by the short track of the new ride is that I can already get a similar long ride on MF.) Paramount's Kings Island has the right idea, differentiating themselves with some of the most visually appealing and thrilling rides out there, with high capacity and relatively low cost (talking about the Huss giants, of course).

I couldn't agree more Jeff! I was glad to see PKI build Tomb Raider last year and I'm even more excited for the Huss Giant Frisbee this year. I think you can have too much of a good thing with coasters, you get to a point where you start to double up on the same experience.

I would take a park like Island of Adventure in Florida with a good mix of coasters and dark rides any day over CP. That's not to say that CP isn't a fantastic park, it's just saying that they are lacking in other respects.

Then again...if you drink enough, any ride is a great ride!

My personal opinion is that you can't ever have too many coasters. Heck, I could ride MF a hundred times, and it would only get better. However, i can see how some people could get tired of the same old thing.
Im going to cedar point tomorrow, and the daytime hi? 50 not factoring in the lakeshore breeze. first thing i do at 12 o clock is ride MF cuz its the best thing they have in my mind. make sure to bring ski goggles for that ride

To further illustrate your point, Chris, I'd bring up Busch Williamsburg as well. Only five coasters, but it's the best park in the Mid-Atlantic region, hands down. If I lived closer to it there's no question in my mind that it would be my favorite park.

Islands of Adventure varies the experience as well, but to be fair it's a "theme park," where Cedar Point is more of an "amusement park." Aside from both having rides, it's hard to classify them together.

Does this mean #16 won't be L-TH-B?

I think he meant it WILL be a short ride length, but he doesn't care because Millie is a longer coaster, which offers the same feeling of speed as #16.

Hoping to work at The Point in '03 so I too can get drunk and pee on VertiGo

Hmm...the MF has overbanks. Soooo, does tha mean #16 will have overbanks. and maybe a bunny hop.

I also think that wild mouse would be the best bet for another coaster under 200 feet. I think it would be a very good move for the Point to install one, especially on the Oceana Midway.

What are you talking about? I designed and built the ride in my garage and financed it myself. I mean, why else does every freakin' thread somehow come back to my name?

Jeff, I'm glad to hear that there are other people who think that all of the coasters are getting old. I'm not saying that building new roller coasters isn't important and exciting but as often as they are building them is getting sort of anticlimactic. It also gives people more and more of a feeling that Cedar Point is not a family park.

I am excited about his new ride. I definately think that I'll have to get back to Cedar Point this next year. However, I would be just as excited (or probably more so) to go and see new jumping fountains on the midway, a spinning mouse ride, a new flat ride (I love Chaos), a dark ride, an addition to Soak City with a Super Saturator in it or many other attractions that I can think of but won't list. I personally feel that Snoopy on Ice was the more important attraction for Cedar Point to add this year.

Somehow it seems to me that Cedar Point is competing against Magic Mountain for the number of coasters. I realize that they are far away from each other, but both are in the same type of frenzy to build. I hope that one of them realizes that there are other things besides coasters that make parks great.

...and enjoy the rest of your day at Cedar Point, The Am-aaaa-zement park!

Then I guess one could not compare CP and BGW either because BGW is as much a theme park as IOA (and a better Theme Park to boot ;))

I was just looking at my latest ACE newsletter and they had listed the Golden Ticket Winners on the back.

The top 9 steel coasters were all over 200ft. and had no inversions.

Food for thought.
