TTD Tires and spoilers

Why did Cedar Point take the tires and spoilers off of Top Thrill Dragster? Will they ever put them back on? The ride looked more real with them on.

I agree it looked better with them on, but from what I remember I was told they were taken off due to wind resistance and it was causing the cars to have a harder time getting over the top of the 420 ft hill. Someone else hear the same thing?

That's what i thought. Probably caused way to many rollbacks.

Not to mention one of the tires flew off the ride.

The dragster tires and engine were removed not long after the ride opened, which was in 2003. I seriously doubt anyone's thinking about putting them back.
Besides, I'd rather have the extra row of seats, wouldn't you?

definitely would rather have the extra seat. Did a tire really fly off??

TopThrillBrendan

It flew off??

I wonder what the park did with them.

Last I saw they were stacked in Mean Streak's infield. But that was before they cleared it out for Eden Musee so don't know where they moved them to.

Yes, one of the tires flew off. No one was injured.

You can read all about it here. :)

They had moved them to the Disaster Transport area but now....I have no clue. I've looked everywhere in my house and I know for a fact they're not here.

Now, Adam... Are you sure? Do I have to come over there?...

You can, just let me know when you'll get here so I can have time to hide, errrr, I mean CLEAN my house first.

ARMS DOWN!

I had forgotten that the tire fell so early in the season in 2003. If I had to guess I would have said mid-season. I think I was at the park just a few days before the tire fell and the Christmas tree lights on the tower were not even completed/operational yet.

Wow, I remember that evening! I was waiting in line somewhere around the second or third section of cues from the station and caught the flying tire out of the corner of my eye. I was able to turn my head quick enough to watch as it flew down the area right between the track and the fence that seperates the cue lines from the ride. As I recall the tire was moving at a pretty good clip and bounced several times as it sailed to it's final resting place somewhere around where the track starts it's turn at the unloading area. When I saw it happen I was sure that the ride would be closed down and I'd have waited all that time for nothing. To my excitement they shut the ride down long enough to transfer the train off that had lost its wheel and then opened it back up! The next morning, every single train that was being used that day, or ever again had all of the engines and wheels removed. I just remember thinking to myself that it was such a good thing that the fence was there and that the wheel stayed clear of anybody. At the speed that thing was going, it wouldn't have been a pretty picture. That same season I rode Dragster in the morning and went back for another spin later, only to see the launch cable had snapped and shreads of wire were sticking out of the launch area. It may not have been a stellar first year for TTD, but it's still one of my favorites!!

I was on the train prior to that one. My friend was on the train after that one. It was fairly interesting to see the reaction.

But it is an important topic/question to ponder. What area will get a reboot next? What needs it most? The Gemini Midway with its terrible blacktop was long overdue, so what's next?

But, that's a different thread. This one seems to have run its course. :)
