I'm fascinated by the recent discussion about TTD's launch happening in the Mean Streak Henry thread, but it's getting a bit off topic. So why not start a new topic? Here's a few questions, and I'd like to ask a few.
-How does TTD determine how fast to launch a train? Based on the previous launch, or based on the last 3 launches?
-When the ride is reset and has no previous launches to reference, what is the "default" setting? Does it assume an empty train?
-What is the range of speeds TTD typically really launches at? I seem to recall it saying "121" or so when they had the speedometer at the hydraulic building. Is it 120-124? 118-122?
-What's the fastest that it has ever launched for testing? I've seen a video somewhere of XCelerator testing at over 100mph, obviously an extremely unsafe operating mode. What could TTD hit? 140?
From the other thread:
I thought I remembered hearing either 108 or 118 for Xcelerator, and something like 135 for Dragster. I don't remember where I heard this, as it was more than 10 years ago.
I believe TTD has a "turbo mode" (not entirely accurate, but it's the best way to describe it) that allows it to hit somewhere around 145. Totally insane ejector. And unsafe. But probably fun anyway.

I have a question. The 3rd Live Webcam is pointing at the DRAGSTER. Why are the Trains not on the Track?

I will answer the next question before anyone asks. They store the trains on the storage track to make maintenance easier. Not only is there no trains sitting over drive motors, breaks, ect., but storage tracks are usually designed to make maintenance/daily inspection easier. Some coasters take the train off the road wheels and the trains sit on their upstops (common on woodies), or even sit on special storage wheels (common for B&M).
I remember seeing the speed board at the end of the launch track reading 126mph from 2003.

I heard it launched so fast one time that the track caught fire and the computer couldn't stop dispatching trains.

Here's an old article where Monty Jasper mentioned the computer using the speed of the 3 previous trains. He also talked about how linear motors were considered for the launch. In my head, I've also imagined that it would have been Witch's Wheel and Gemini as the 2 rides mentioned that needed removal for a LIM/LSM launch to work.

If answered elsewhere, I apologize, but since it is part of this thread -- what was the reason that they took down the TTD digital speed display board? I remember seeing it early on, but do not remember how long ago it was that it came down.

Apparently LSM/LIM has come a long way in 13 years. Check this out:
367ft tall, 0-112mph in 5 seconds, 2,887ft of track, LSM launch.
~60' shorter top hat than TTD but with 87' of extra track, and it has a hill similar to Kinda Krap (oops I mean Kingda Ka). Also looks to use Intamin's newer style track, similar to Skyrush & I-305.

This turbo works something like this (starting at 0:13):
I think what those are referring to as "Turbo" is the Launch boost on the main control panel, but does not function for what others refer to it to do.

Correct, it says Launch Boost, Empty Trains Only
The Arms down button is actually on OP 2 on the column (where the ride op in controls is watching the launch)
Walt or others, I know this was discussed on one of those Behind The Rides blogs CP had. Anyone have copies or the archive of it?
