True definition of "pointer"

What exactly do you consider a "Pointer?" Is a Pointer somebody who is a Cedar Point fan, or is it somebody that spends way too much time at the park? Is it somebody who is obsessed or just interested?

I'd say anyone who is obsessed and spends way too much time at the park. Does anyone actually admit that they are a Pointer?

I Met Brittney! Shes SOOOOOO Cool!

What does obsession constitute? How much time is TOO much time at CP?

The definition of a "Pointer" is Jeff Tobe.

I dunno, but one of the programmers that work in my department asked if CP compensates me for being a walking billboard for the park. This after running into me outside, wearing my CP fleece pull-over, carrying my CP umbrella, my briefcase with at least 10 CP buttons/pins on it, and to top it off, I had just picked up my photos from my visit the other weekend. (not to mention all the photos and stuff plastered on my office wall)!

Does that make me a "Pointer" or does it just make me plain pathetic?

OMG JAMES LOVES CEDAR POINT.

I mean he REALLY LOVES Cedar Point. ;o)

I didn't intend this to be "Oh my God it's the off-season" thread. I've suffered through those enough. I would have posted this thread a month ago had I thought about it then.

A good question to ask yourself: If the off-season is shorter than the season and you're still having withdrawls, are you a Pointer?

I'll second that, Dan. I don't consider myself a coaster enthusiast at all (my track record currently stands at a whopping 16), as I state in the about section of my web site. I'm most certainly a Po!nter, though - whatever that is :)

With a new baby, building a new house, a full-time job, and freelance work, life is plenty full whether in-season or off-season. But I still manage to find time to do all things that are the Point.

I wasn't much of a coaster fanatic until a couple of years ago. But I've found myself enjoying the rides a lot now. I go to PKI & SFWoA once in a while, but they just don't compare to Cedar Point when it comes to thrills, atmosphere, and just a general sense of fun. I went to the Point 4 times this past season and intend on buying a season pass and going there much more often next year.

I guess that if you've made Cedar Point a part of your life like that, then you're a Pointer.

There's only one who "really understands" and it's not James or myself....

Well, I'm new around here, but I'll throw in what I feel a Pointer would be.

If you wake up the morning you're about to visit the park, get in to the car you packed up the night before, drive a few extra miles over the few extra miles you already drive over the speed limit to get there, and get there at least an hour before the gates open...

and you drive up the causeway and just can't believe you're back, and wait in line for the gates to open, and finally run through, and ride everything over and over, and, even for just a day or two, or ten :-), feel like a kid again... and don't have a care in the world...

and you MUST have cheese on a stick at least once per trip there.... oh, and everyone around you thinks you're "too much" in love with the park... that's the really big indicator... or you're referred to as the "walking map,"... you're a Pointer.

Of course, I've left out the feeling of sadness when it's time to leave, and you know it'll be more than overnight before you're back... and you watch as the park gets smaller and smaller in your rear-view mirror...

17 straight years of real thrills and counting...

You know you're a Pointer when...

You can answer every question your friends have when you bring them to the park (Space Spiral is anchored 30 feet in the ground)...

You know about the world's tallest rotating restaurant...

You look forward to cold rainy days in the park (crowd control!)...

You've gone behind the lines just to see what it's like...

You buy tickets and season passes as presents for friends to get them hooked (it works)...

Your clothes closet looks like a rack from Snoopy Boutique...

Your yearly trip count looks like some peoples ride counts (56+1)...

If you claim the title of Pointer, it's yours.

Long live the Queen of American watering places: Cedar Point, America's Roller Coast.

I guess I am considered a Po!nter. I've been going to CP at least once or twice a year for 36 years. I've put construction photos up in my office and answer CP questions from the students who come in for password resets. Friends and family call me for information about CP, which hotels and restaurants I prefer (both on and off point), and I spend my off season discussing CP on the forums.
