Troop Day @ the Park

Hey I was just thinking does anyone else think it would be a good idea to set a day aside to just the Army,Navy,Marines etc... in one of the later days in the season. They worked so hard for our country and they risk there lives for us so I think to them it would be rewarding to let them and there families enjoy a day @ CP! It could be ours, or CP's way of saying thank you. And also, think how good that would make CP reputation and more people would go there as if they dont have enough tourists!

The Anheuser Busch parks are giving out free admission to active military. It's a nice gesture, but yikes, given BGW's proximity to the naval bases, I hope they don't tank in the process.

I was thinking of something like this a couple days ago. Schedule one day where any member of any of the armed forces, including our allies, receive free admission to the park. Put on a fireworks show that would rival July 4ths. All hand stamps would be reserved for these individuals.

The problem would lie in the fact that there will, probably, be some "anti-war" protestors in the park as well. Surely, these people would create a bad experience for the Armed Forces Personnel. By way of verbal, or physical abuse. This may not be the kind of publicity Cedar Point wants.

Pleaes... people don't go to an amusement park so they can protest a war. Even if people are opposed to the war, they sure as hell don't harass the military.

Yeah. Anyone harassing the military in a park like Cedar Point on a military day would deserve to be taken up to the top of TTD and thrown off

I agree. They shouldnt be against are troops. Cedar Point wouldn't let that happen and i dont think they would have a day just for that. Just discount tickets.

Although it would be nice to have something extra special, maybe on July 4th., to somehow honor the military. I don't know exactly what, but maybe some type of parade or other type of ceremony.

Florida may have Disneyworld and Key West,
but Ohio has Cedar Point and Put-In-Bay.
It's great to live in Ohio!

Did you know that members of the military receive a discount on Cedar Point tickets? Just bring your military ID with you when you visit CP, and you can purchase a Cedar Point admission ticket for $26.95. The discount is only valid for the person in the military -- they can be active duty or retired. Family members and friends must purchase regular admission tickets.

Joe Galloway was at my school Wed. He wrote the book We Were Soldiers, Once... and Young. It was adapted into the movie "We Were Soldiers" staring Mel Gibson. The best thing he said the whole time was, "I don't give a $#!+ if people hate the war, but for God's sakes, don't hate the warrior!" I agree with him full heartedly.

I don't know about anybody else, but harassing a military member wouldn't be on the top ten list of people to harass no mater where you are. They tend to be rather large people that can be pretty viscious when provoked. (speaking as an ex-military member myself)

Actually, I do believe that active duty officers as well as enlisted members of our nation's military forces can go to their base's MWR (Morale, Welfare, and Recreation) office and get discount tickets for any amusement park in the country. I'm not sure on this though, but you MAY be able to go to your base's Carlson Wagonlit travel agency and pick up discount tickets as well.

My dad, who is a chaplain at Fort Story, Virginia, was able to get tickets for Worlds of Fun when the family went out west to visit my brother over in Fort Riley, Kansas. He just picked up tickets for most of the major parks in Florida for when they go visit grandma this summer.

As for Cedar Point, I can have him go and check if anyone is interested? I'd also be willing to call up the nearest MWR office or military outlet of Carlson Wagonlit. If he can get tickets for one Cedar Fair park, he SHOULD be able to get tickets for Cedar Point.

I don't know why he personally would need tickets, he's got my four free tickets at his disposal :).

Response to Lee: I do find it a lil' unfair that only the active duty member of a family can get the discount ticket from Cedar Point ticket offices. Though, when you get tickets from a MWR or Carlson Wagonlit office you can get them for the active duty person as well as their family members.

UPDATE: I was browsing through the MWR webstite (http://www.armymwr.com/) and located their tickets page. Apparently your local office carries tickets for local attractions and has the ability to order tickets for attractions throughout the United States. Still waiting for it to turn daylight so I can give them a call and get the official word. I'll try to have an answer sometime today :)!

LOL, thanks for the compliment MrScott :)! I just like to help people out, especially fans of CP who are serving in the armed forces right now. Hey, during times like this, even they need a break to escape from reality! Hopefully I'll be able to get everyone an answer by this afternoon :)!

Wait. Didn't I say, "Probably"? Maybe, I mis-read my own post. It was just a thought, anyway.
