Trolling, hostility and inappropriate language

I don't understand how these forums can degenerate in to the lowest form of communication in the scope of a day.

Rule 1: If someone is being a troll, ignore them. If you respond, you become part of the problem. It's not worth it.

Rule 2: Substituting characters to spell a naughty word doesn't fool anyone. Don't do it. I'm tired of seeing that crap. This is a family site, post that way on Usenet, not here.

Rule 3: If it smells like crap, looks like crap, and feels like it's crap, it's probably crap. Don't give the author the validation of responding to it.

Rule 4: If something gets deleted, don't take it personally, and don't keep bringing it up. I've said it before, this is a moderated forum.

Rule 5: If something gets you so hot and bothered that you find yourself sitting in front of the computer waiting for someone to respond, take a deep breath, shut down the computer, go outside, see a movie, grab a bite to eat, interact with real humans. The result should be far more satisfying.

People wonder why forums like the one on Ultimate Roller Coaster was shutdown. Who could blame him? When you look at your forum and you can't find the substance among the nonsense, why bother?

If it keeps up the forums will go away or switch to a closed membership, and I really don't want to do that. However, I'm not going to continue to pay for bandwidth to propagate nonsense.

Play nice.

You are very right Jeff, I am sorry for the abbreviated foul lingo and I wont do it again :) This site is the best CP related site on the net and it should always be just that.

"Your obssesed w/ that place aren't you?"
Jeff, I have a little question or comment, whatever.

Since the majority of us here are adults or young adults (higher up in the teenage years, like 14-18 or so), what is wrong with censoring a naughty word? Personaly, I am against censorship of the internet,GO 1ST AMENMENT!.
I would think we would all be mature enough to just dissmiss that kind of thing.

Mantis Maniac, Understand this about the 1st amendment - It only applies to a public arena. No one can prohibit you from saying anything out in public. But this doesn't apply to private organizations or forums. These areas can be moderated and yes, censored.

Jeff has always had a policy about what he will and won't let get posted. And since this is a privately held forum, (Yes, Jeff owns the site. It's all his) he is absolutely allowed to remove things at his disgression. Personally, I like the fact that he does it. I don't need to be bothered with a bunch of worthless chatter and ridiculous speculation.

And regarding the internet itself, since nobody owns the internet (the backbone that allow sites to exist) I would agree with your position about censorship there. But that only applies to not allowing a site to exist in the first place.

So if you don't like the fact that Jeff does this, you have two options. Either accept it or go elsewhere. It's that simple.
I'm just saying that everyone here is fairly mature, so what would be wrong with sensoring something? That's just what my comment was about.

Mantis Maniac: This forum isn't JUST visited by members. I'm sure there are a great many people that come here to hear what Cedar Point is like, even if they have never visted the park before. When dealing with such a massive audience, one that you can't check IDs for and so forth, it is better to be safe than sorry, and I applaud the time Jeff puts into this site to make it a good, solid forum.

There's nothing mature about swearing in a public forum. If anything, it demonstrates quite the opposite.

The fact is, there's no way to tell who is viewing the site. If you were a teacher, parent or ever worked with kids, you'd understand the reason I care. Further more, ask your parents if they would approve of you frequently visiting a site where every other word is four letters.

Max has it right... if you don't approve, don't visit the site.

Another thing is, I know for a fact this site is frequently visited by several high schools here in lower Michigan. Guide to the Point is a great reference for both teachers and students. I think it's pretty self explanatory that if there was swearing on this site that audience would be gone.
