Speaking of Trivia, Here's some easy ones to get you started, It was the Midway Carousel's 100th anniversary last year but there was a "50th" anniversary for a ride last year that came and went with no fanfare/banner at all. What was it? Also what ride celebrates the half century mark this year in 2013 (please CP put up a banner on the station), and which one will in 2014? First correct answers get a free water cocktail on me.
Sky wheel hasn't been at the park for years, (according to the CP website, Sky Ride opened in 1961, not 1962), CP&LE RR, and Blue streak.

^^ I'll give you the water cocktail but no umbrella because of using faulty info. No not sky wheel, but Sky Ride was introduced in 1962. The dates are wrongly switched on there and I have a few pieces of evidence to back it up. Your other 2 are definitely correct. Google pointbuzz history to see this sites history section and this sites history on those two rides is correct unlike the parks, believe it or not. The park planned on debuting both the Sky Wheel and Sky Ride according to their may 1961 Plain Dealer advertising supplement but plans changed. the Sky Wheel did debut in 1961 under the old Super Jets location (to the right of current Raptor entrance) in the middle of the midway. building the Sky ride the next year (because of the double wheels' height) necessitated it being moved the following year in front of the current beginning station that we know of today, to accomodate one of the blue support towers of the Sky ride. The height of the Sky Wheel (double ferris ) was going to interfere with the buckets dangling underneath the newly installed sky ride. Yes, these dates have been switched many times for these 2 rides and unfortunately when CP updated their history section about 8 years ago, this wasn't caught along with some other misinformation that was given to them. Long story....
Allons-y Alonso!
On topic, are you sure of the 1962 opening of Sky Ride? I'm pretty sure our ride operation manual says 1961. Awkward.
2010: Millennium Force & Mantis
2011: Raptor
2012: Raptor, Sky Ride and Wicked Twister
2013: Co-Team Leader of Sky Ride
2014: Supervisor of Slingshot/Skyscraper
Sky Ride officially opened on June 9, 1962.
Cedar Point ordered the ride from Von Roll in late spring of 1961. The towers, cables, and passenger buckets arrived from Berne, Switzerland in early May, 1962. Total cost for the project was $300,000.
Here are three newspaper ads Cedar Point used in 1962.
I'm loving those ads. Seems the Skyride riders are having difficulty keeping their hands and arms inside the car at all times.
And the price for Monday POP? $2.65. What a hoot. (Fast lane ran an additional 5 bucks...)
That summer was our first family trip to the "new" Cedar Point and we went on the Skyride. The cabins were small 2-seaters and you rode sideways. I remember my dad took my little brother with him and I got stuck with mom who was afraid of heights and didn't want to go. She spent the whole ride with her chin down, eyes shut, and holding on to the center pole in the car. Every time we went over the rollers on the supports she screamed.
The next year we put her on the new Mill Race with us. She didn't like it any better!
^^Thanks for posting those 3 ads and confirming the date I've been saying for years now. I think I have 1 of those in my CP newspaper archives. Yep, there's alot of misinformation out there on numerous websites and books that is being disproved by newspaper articles, brochures, film footage, etc. Thus my love for CP park history and research.
^ I've actually seen pics from the park in 1962 and 1963 without the Sky Ride or Mill Race at the beginning of the year(opening days) but the rides debuting later on in the year. I guess this still happens today with Windseeker and the modern Shoot the Rapids, neither one were ready to ride or open in May the last few years.
OK, easy/medium difficulty trivia: How many different passenger loading areas did the Western Cruise/ Paddlewheel Excursions have during its run from 1961-2011 and approximately where were they?
