Trip Oct2-4 Winds?

Hello, first time posting here, but Ive followed for a while now.

My wife and I have been going to the Point since 2003 religiously. We have been to every Halloweekend since then. We have been when it was very windy before, but I never really payed attention to the actual wind speed. We are supposed to go this weekend but I have been studying the weather and the winds are supposed to be 25mph with higher gusts.

I dont know if they were this high when weve went before, so Im wondering if anyone has been when they are 25mph+. I expect certain rides to be closed, but just wondering how bad it will be this weekend.

Thanks!

If winds are 25+, expect Dragster, Windseeker, Skyride and Raptor to be down and possibly Gatekeeper.

Thanks! Yes, those have been down before when we went and it was windy, but I never knew what the actual wind speed was at those times. I just got to looking today and saw 25-35mph and I was thinking, wow, I sure hope those arent worse than what weve experienced before, and the whole park isnt going to shut down. We drive a long ways so hate to not be able to do anything while we are there. Seems like the last few years its really hard to get a good weather Halloweekend.

I wouldn't even drive 2 hours in that wind. It's hard to keep a Jeep Liberty from drifting. I've been there before in October with the winds going and it was not fun.

This is not uncommon at the point in October. Expect winds at the park to be in excess of those posted on weather forecast sites.

I've been there on weekends with similar forecasts where nearly everything but flat rides were closed. Expect the worst. The haunted houses will of course still be open.

For what it's worth, I canceled our lighthouse point reservations for this weekend when I saw the forecast back on Tuesday.

Mr. Cedar Point -

I told my cousins about the Wind tonight. They aren't happy, because I told them some big rides will be closed. Will the Maverick and the Rougarou be Closed?

MaverickLaunch -

I suspect most all coasters will be closed. Maverick is usually one of the last to close for wind, but it definitely does.

Theres a lakefront flood warning, too. Water levels are up about 6-8 feet. Which if I'm not mistaken would have the water all the way up to WT que.

I was going to go tonight. I was so hyped to ride the rides until I saw how bad the wind was. I'm not taking the chance of TTD or Millennium being closed. Of course this stupid Hurricane had to ruin everyones fun!

I don't think that the wind is being caused by the hurricane.

Rougabrew -

Yes it is caused by the hurricane. When hurricane Sandy hit in 2012, there were high winds and some damage in ohio.

I live in Sandusky and as of ten minutes ago the wind was ESE,at 33, with gusts to 49! From previous experience I would say the only major ride running would be Maverick. Did not bother going tonight.

Shades -

I agree that winds from hurricanes can make it to Ohio but as of 5:00 am on 10/3 Joaquin is still just south of the tip of Florida. The winds last night were not from the hurricane. They were being caused by a different front.

Well, I made the wrong call on this trip. I figured we had been there when it was windy, heck even sleeting before and had a decent time with only a few coasters closed. Nope, not this time. Friday only Maverick, Rougarou, and later on Bluestreak. The winds were so aweful the sand was blowing all over the place and the beach was totally washed out. We couldnt hardly walk without being blown everywhere. The operator at Milly said they clocked winds at 49mph! I winded up cancelling our Saturday at Breakers and went over to Castaway bay and at least enjoyed a few water rides. This is definitely the last time Ill drive 8 hours when I see even the slightest chance of high winds, LOL!
