I have been to many Theme Parks and next year I am planning my 1st trip to CP.
So I need some help..
1) Best time of the year to go? (weather, crowds, all attractions being opened, etc...)
2)What hotels may be best to stay at?
3)What airport to fly in to?
4) How close are the competing parks to the area?
4) What ever else I should know?
Thx in advance for the your help
1) http://pointbuzz.com/faq.htm Personally, I like early in the season. The weather is cooler, the lines shorter, and the employees are still nice. :)
2) http://pointbuzz.com/accommodations.htm This really all depends on how much you want to spend and how many people are traveling with you. I'm a big fan of Lighthouse Point after staying there this summer.
3) Cleveland (CLE) is the closest. Akron (CAK) is probably the cheapest. Toledo (TOL) I'm not really sure about. Maybe someone else can help you there.

4) Enjoy your trip. You'll have a blast. :)
I prefer May. The water park isn't open yet, but everything in the park is open. The weather can be hit or miss, but the light crowds make it worthwhile. If not going in May, try for early June weekdays.
Small group (2-4 people): Hotel Breakers
Larger group : Lighthouse Point
I believe Cleveland is the closest airport.
There are no more "competing" parks in Ohio. CF owns them all. Geauga Lake is in Cleveland (about an hour) and Kings Island is about 3 hours south near Cincinnati. I'm not sure about smaller parks.
Don't over plan the trip. If you go in the early season, you won't have to worry about a plan, you'll be able to walk onto nearly everything, and everything else will have minimal waits, with the longest being Dragster, Millennium and (I'm guessing) Maverick. But these will be 1 hour tops.
If you stay at Lighthouse, plan to hit a grocery store on your way to get some charcoal and grilling stuff. You can cook your own food to save some money.

When I was younger...the best day to go was on Mother's day. I went to Cedar Point 5 years in a row on that day and the park was always empty. Plus my mother always got a nice present from CP!

My favorite months to go are June and July, because they are the warmest and I love going on the water rides and go to Soak City.
