tricks with the belts

i have two questions about the belts on millenium force

1. in the test seat what are the best techniques for getting 1 inch of slack?

2. also is the rumor true that the belts on some of the seats on the trains are longer or shorter?

thanks for the info.

1) By pulling on it with everything you have. Just keep yanking on it, it'll get there eventually

2) All the belts on the green train are longer than those on the others by about an inch. So if you have trouble fitting into blue or yellow, wait for the green one to come around, you should fit fine.

JuggaLotus, you forgot to tell them about the green train sitting at the bottom of the lake. :)
Hey coolfun my suggestion the best way to get 1 inch of slack is lose weight instead of hurting yourself. ;)
Wasn't the green train dumped into Lake Erie BECAUSE the belt was longer, allowing "unsafe" people to ride? ;)

Jeff, can we lock this?

No, you can't. Moderators can though.

...and I suspect that there is some meaning behind the fact that none of them has just yet.

Probably just waiting to see how far the "Green train has longer belts" rumor gets....

I heard they threw the green train in the lake because Millenium Force was sinking and they wanted to take some weight off of it.

this was supposed to be an informational page for everyone i just wanted to know just in case i have to help my dad with it.

i am not that big

The majority of folks posting on this thread are VERY HELPFUL.

In the interest of maintaining this tone, I would suggest that YOU BRING YOUR OWN BELT, one that you are sure will fit around you. Yeah, that's it, BYOB.

Anyway....

I thought I had the test seat figured out, in terms of how and in which direction to try to muscle the belt. But as it turns out, jerking it back and forth in every conceivable direction only works to a point. I guess the weight-loss advice is the best direction after all. Short of that, dress lightly -- light shorts, light T-shirt etc. -- and imagine what it will be like during Halloweekends when you are freezing in order to ride.

Based on my experience, however, I have come to suspect that tightening the belts on the ride itself may be easier than doing it on the test seat.

But who really knows.

Here's an idea.

I know many MF fans oppose over-the-shoulder restraints. But what if they devised something like an over-the-shoulder belt harness. You'd be secure and still be able to experience some air time. Maybe they could even do away with the lapbars. That would be an interesting ride.

Maybe those Swiss geniuses could devise some creative solution to CP's customer-service nightmare.

I don't know why everyone associates airtime with loose lapbars/belts. Airtime is the feeling of negative g-forges, a-la falling rapidly as if the floor fell out. Whether you have a tight belt that holds you to the train, or a loose one that lets you fall out, you will get great air but without the pain of being thrown around in your seat. OTSB, similar to a 5-point safety harness could actually help the situation, but would take forever to get people in and out of.

Based on all the troubles Intamin has been having this year, I dont' know if I'd use the term "geniuses". :)

The "geniuses" remark was a sarcastic reference, Shivering Tim.

Yes, I'm aware of all the problems stemming from those knuckleheads.

It is usually standard that they try and make the test seat the "smallest" belt, to just make sure if people fit in the test seat, they fit will fit in every seat in the ride. I know earlier in the year, I think people were saying the test seat was bigger because of the positioning (I don't know personally, really didn't see for myself), but now it appears to be a pretty good indicator.

Some other tips.....

Before you sit down is make sure the belt is entirely untwisted. It’s lot easier to do while standing up than sitting down, and sometimes it’s tough to see if the belt is even twisted when seated.. If the belt is twisted at all it will shorten it by a good half inch.

Lift shirts and jackets up while you put the belt around, so the belt doesn’t go across them (but don’t take your shirt off ;)). Those layers will mean more legth to go around.

Besides what has already been said, there isn’t really any miracle trick or anything. If your not even close in the test seat it probably won’t do much, but if you are a close call it may give you the extra half inch to give you two fingers, or a thumb or whatever ridiculous measurement you need to ride.

Gemini 100- 6/11/01

1. Loosen the belt ALL THE WAY.

2. Untwist the belt.

3. Grip the right end of the belt. Pull on the belt (letting your hand slide) all the way over to the left side, and buckle.

4. Repeat step three as needed to pull 1" slack.

5. Enjoy your ride! *** Edited 7/25/2004 1:14:05 PM UTC by swimmerkev***
