Tree Clearing

I don't know if it was always like that - but doesn't the West bank of the Lagoon path seem extremely bare. Cedar Point is scaring me with how many trees they keep removing. Pretty soon it will be like a Six Flags (YIKES!!!)

I don't think that that bare spot was always land. If I remember right, the lagoon was quite wide in that location but PE only travelled near the island bank. Who can say why they filled it in?

this issues with the trees seems to be a concern for many of us here at CP Place, including myself. I personally think the more trees in the park, the better.
I wholeheartedly agree Parrot - I thing CP is letting this once prevalent aspect of the park fall to the way-side :( RIP Lagoons :(
They should have policy that many colleges and universities have, for every tree removed, one will be planted.
I recall that when Mantis was built CP had requested to fill in a lot more of the lagoon area than was needed just for Mantis (since it's considered wetlands and they needed approval). Therefor, I kept an eye on the area in question since I expected them to fill it in that season, but they didn't. I guess (by the looks of the new pics) they finally have. Since MF only uses a small piece of land there, I'd look for new developments in that area in the future....

Maybe they need a system for planting trees that is as easy as Roller Coaster Tycoon. Left click and poof, it's there and fully grown.

OOOOOH! (The sound of people going up MF's first hill.)
AHHHHHH! (The sound of people going down.)
Pshahahahahaha!!! That was hilarious!!!

Thank you for riding Raptor and enjoy your day here at Cedar Point, America's RollerCoast!
Good one!! Didn't they drain the lagoon for the time being? I know that sounds luticrist(sp?) but taht is what I have heard!

Two things... I think they did fill in some of the lagoon, because on my last visit there were trucks coming in at regular intervals in the area from the ride almost down to Snake River Falls. Second, do keep in mind that there are no leaves on the trees and that tends to make things look bare.

I gotta agree with ya here, Jeff. Looking at those new pictures, this has definitely been done making room for yet more development in the future. If you guys remember, when looking down the lagoon from the train's crossover at Snake river, the lagoon clearly was divided by a small isthmus in the middle, the strip to the left being the main channel for the TRFKAWC (Paddle Wheel Excursions). They certainly filled in the strip to the right. Interesting....

I'm glad you remember that, I wasn't paying attention! And what do you know... lots of room for an out-and-back.

Go to Cedar Point's official website. Go to the artist's rendering of what MF will look like, the one that came out way back when MF was first announced, and you will see that in that drawing the lagoon had a divide in it that started near Snake River Falls and extended almost to Mantis. In the construction pictures it is obvious that that divide and the water to the west of it is now gone.

Here's a shot from the train looking down the lagoon before MF construction really took off...

You are the man! I guess I didn't realize how much they filled in there. Very interesting. I wonder what their reasoning was to fill that in.

How much of the island does MF use? Is there still a good portion between CCMR and MF left? If there is, add that to the reclaimed land and voila, a nice chunk of land for future development. Just a hunch.

Look at this picture from the official site...

You can see the area I'm talking about. Between MF and CCMR to SRF along the trail back to MF. Very interesting indeed.

At some point rampant development of excessively large rides will kill the spirit of the place. I wonder how long before the campground goes.
