Trail Tavern

So it opened on Coastermania however I didn't get a chance to make my way over to it. Anyone enjoy it Friday or this week know all that's offered, prices, how was it, etc.

I've been very curious to see what it was like, can't wait to experience it myself this weekend

My husband went the evening of Coastermania, which was their first day open. No draft selection (yet), just cans, some craft. He did say that he absolutely LOVED the atmosphere there and could have hung out there all evening. I'm sure we'll be frequenting it in future visits!!

I stopped in for a quick beer yesterday. Was disappointed that they had no draft selections. Overall I was not impressed with their selection of bottled beer. I think they had 3 varieties of Great Lakes which I found to be unexciting as I can already get those any time almost anywhere around me. And none of the other 6-7 choices that they had seemed very adventuresome to me. Maybe I am just picky.

I think the atmosphere is nice and the two women working were very friendly but once was enough for me. I'll pay $10 and get a 20 ounce Budweiser with the commoners at the Red Garter.

How were the prices, Shades?

As for selection, it's important to compare the selection to what else is available in the park, rather than what you can find at the corner store. And I would imagine that as time goes on, they'll modify their selection based on what sells.

$8.15 plus tip for a 12 oz bottle of something (I guess it did not make an impression on me since I don't remember what it was).

Agreed - compared to the other in-park choices they offer very different things at the tavern.

The prices are floating around $7, give or take a few cents (in .25 increments) per beer. Like Shades, my friends and I thought the selection to be rather "meh", but I'm spoiled by my beer preferences, and what I have available to me.

Even so, I'd like to see some more "local" selections from Fat Heads, Columbus, Elevator, Hoppin' Frog, Market Garden, Bells, Founders, etc... (some Jolly pumpkin would impress the hell out of me)

More than likely, those beers go through a different distributor than what they're getting, and the profit margin is WAY lower, so I do get it, but calling Sam Adams Boston Lager or Sierra Nevada Pale Ale a "Craft beer" these days is walking a fine line. While they're technically craft breweries based upon their production amount, they are only narrowly defined as such, and they're hardly on the creative side of craft brewing.

These two statements seem incompatible.

They are. But I would rather spend $10 on a 20 oz Bud at Red Garter than $10 on an unexciting 12 oz beer from the tavern.

A 12oz beer is $10 at the tavern?

Whatever I had was $8.15 for the beer and I gave a $2 tip.

We stopped by the Tavern on a quick trip to the park this evening and enjoyed it. I thought they had a good selection of beers and my wife had a glass of Mon Ami. Prices were ok. I wish they had some beers on tap (hint, hint)....

Thanks for feedback finally everyone, was eagerly watching to see when this would get some answers.

That is surprising they only have bottles..for now hopefully. I'd love to see something tapped in the future. Maybe later this year, some seasonal Oktoberfest beers on tap hmm? I see alot of great potential for this, hopefully it gets looked at, I'm sure this place could be better for sure and improve greatly. What Great Lakes brews were they offering by chance? Hopefully at least Dartmunder? Then are you just getting an opened bottle or are they at least pouring it for you lol.

Any Wines yet? Gf isn't a beer drinker (yet, working on that) but does enjoy Pinot Noir & Cab Savs.

They had three Great Lakes beers, one of them was Dortmunder Gold I think. And they do have a selection of wines but I can't remember what the items were. And yes, they do open the bottle of beer and pour it into a glass for you.

Nice, I'll be happy with at least Dartmunder, a good lager back there would be nice to enjoy.

Glad they pour, I would kinda wonder how to tip someone who just brings you an open bottle, end of transaction. Pour a beer, ok you did me a good service, thanks, enjoy a good tip.
