Calypso did look great back then! I remember when it was next to the Mill Race before Raptor took the spot.
Most who enjoy the flats probably miss Schwabinchen. I know I do. I think I would rather ride her over Chaos, but that doesn't mean I don't think Chaos is fun! *** Edited 5/31/2007 7:14:58 PM UTC by delphi94***

Oh boy do I! The Jumbo Jet was THE most intense coaster at CP during the early 1970's. It had bobsled style seating , and was relentless once it went over the top. It was also noted for "walking". It was in fact a "portable" ride in more ways than one. It was originally intended for the European fair circuit, and rested on large wooden blocks. The lateral forces of several two car trains running would cause the ride structure to creep across the section of the parking lot on which it was erected. Once or twice a season it had to be winched back into position.
Good to see a little discussion on the Jumbo Jet. I've been obsessed with JJ (well anything Schwarzkopf, esp his Jetstar and Speed Racer series) ever since hearing about the one at CP which was only in operation from 72-78... Indeed it was known as the wildest ride at CP at the time, and was said to be one of the fastest coasters around. I am just curious why it didn't last too long as I have heard a few different reasons for its removal, the main one being it was a 'maintenance' nightmare? Sounds a little strange. There are only two Jumbo Jets still in operation, and both are not in the USA. My chances to experience this fantastic looking coaster were shot when the one at Coney Island NY was removed a few years ago. :-( Anyone have any memories or info of CP's JJ?
ps---> Dutchman, what do you mean when you say JJ was known for 'walking'? *** Edited 6/17/2007 8:24:33 PM UTC by JetstarIII***

Qixote, LOL, I originally did not read your post right, I thought the "Buxom Fraulein" was a flat ride that I could not remember from back in the day. I think they should put the "Buxom Fraulein" from the Schwabinchen in the center of the current Calypso, since that ride has been stripped down to nothing.
