Topping off Tower?

Checked the webcam just now to see if any major progress had been made today. It appears that the rear support they are putting up now comes horizontal (or very near horizontal) towards the other supports. The support tower should be complete soon.

No, not just yet, I think. Getting harder and harder to tell exact angle through these cams the higher (farther away) they get. :)

yeah its definatly leaning in more. I dont think it is as far as it look though. Looks like we will see one more catwalk (trying to remember if there was makings for 7 or 8 of them). And then we should be pretty damn close to 400'. I know it doesnt look like it from here but when you see it in person, its up there. And i dont know if anyone has seen it yet, but there is a lot of stuff going on in the view of the ID cam. lots of station work and there is a big wall off to the left, obviously forming something....*scratches head*

Do I have to remind anyone that Wicked Twister has 100+ feet of unsupported track, and that long portions of track go unsupported on Millennium Force?

I was thinking the same thing, Jeff. Because if you look at the pix of Xcelerator, there's a ton of unsupported track. I'm still not ready to say that it's gonna be over 400 ft. tall. I have to see it (or hear the announcement due in 2005) to believe it.

My opinion...After the one funny piece is placed on the top I think their will be a spider of beams in the area of 30-50 feet attaching itself to portions of the top hat and other track.

Also, I think the top of the tophat will be unsupported because looking at the three tophat tracks one of them does not have a place for a support...

Scottie, conservatively each catwalk is 50 feet apart. 7 are in place and they are close to installing the 8th and final catwalk today, so I am surprised there is still some doubt about the ride being over 400 feet tall. Jeff, doesnt have to remind us about unsupported track, but it appears we need to remind him about his observation that the top hat will be supported. It goes without saying that there could be 50 to 100 feet of unsupported verticle track.

I'd say it'll still be awhile before this thing is topped off. They may top the tower off soon, but not the top hat.

Superman The Escape at Six Flags Magic Mountain is 415 feet tall. However, the trains only go 330' high. You can see it here. There is also one at Dreamworld in Australia that is 377'. Here is a good height breakdown.
