After riding Top Thrill Dragster dozens of times, I FINALLY got my first rollback on Friday night!
I was sitting next to a guy who had ridden it 2495 times, and said that he has gotten only 15 rollbacks.
It seems like the probability of a rollback is very slim... so, do back-to-back rollbacks ever happen?
Yes. Not often. Rollbacks aren't exactly desirable for the crew running the ride since they trigger downtime and resets, to put it simply.
Thanks guys...
I didn't really talk to the guy sitting next to me much because he was too busy yelling at Mean Streak Henry about how the 'he and the guys' were going to eat at Pinks later.
I've got two rollbacks. I witnessed consecutive rollbacks a week ago Saturday (9/13). And the third try BARELY made it. That's pretty rare.
I was next to get on TTD when that guy was seated in the lead car for his 2500th ride. There was a brief station announcement, and pictures on cell phones while he held a little sign with the number on it. The sign looked like it was on cardboard.
So while we waited for all that the topic of conversation on the platform turned to things that sounded like "What? Who in their right mind would do that?" I got a chuckle.
I've had one rollback. It was a few years ago, at the very beginning of the season, the first Monday, in fact, and didn't happen at the beginning of the day as was common. It was five minutes before the park closed. We were probably 10 or 15 minutes getting reset and relaunched. Two ladies, when given the option, bailed and didn't want to go again.
I don't know how many rides I've had on TTD, but whatever it is has a .5 after it. I wonder how Mr. 2500 counts his? I'm about to call shenanigans...
2500 meh. I want the number of times the ride has gone down for mechanical while he has been in line. I'd wager over 100 easily.

You just have to become friends with the crew and sometimes they'll push the "rollback button" for a train. :)

Funny thing about that, the evening I got the rollback I leaned over to the guy who was checking the lapbars and said "pssst. Jason. Rollback." and he said "no, now, you know we can't make that happen" and I said "aw, c'mon. Do it." and he said "no" and I said "c'mon, just for me, k?" and he laughed and kept moving.
Well, when we rolled back I said to the guy who came out to check on us "hey, tell Jason I said thanks!" and he said "oh, YOU'RE the one! You should've seen the look on his face when the train actually did roll back!" And I said "right. Well, tell him I said thanks and he's my new boyfriend"
We all got a big laugh, my stupid little joke couldn't have been better timed.
Jason is a made up name, because i cant remember. The story is real.
The roll back was a lot of fun and a little scary, too. We were there with a pretty large group, about 8 or 10 guys and we had miraculously all gotten in the same train, the yellow gold one, consecutive seats. My partner and I were in seat 2 and the weird thing was when we launched I had a feeling we weren't going to make it. It just didn't feel right. Then I thought we would. Then we stopped at the top. Since we were so far forward in the train we were actually over the crest, starting to head down before we went back. It felt like quite a little pause while we teetered there, we might've even been close to balancing. Then there was a little airtime as we got yanked backwards. It was awesome.
It was also the best and longest view I've ever had from the top of TTD!
My rollback was Gold train too. Front row. It was pretty neat. It felt like a giant version of Wicked Twister.
2011, May...watched train rollback twice while next in line. Train came back to the station to let people off that didn't seem to enjoy those two rollbacks very much. It was my row so they let me on. I got my first rollback right then and pretty much the rest of the people on the train got three in a row. A pair of girls in front of me were riding it for their first time. They launched us one more time and made it over, barely. So slow I thought it was going to stop. It was mid afternoon and it never launched another train that day.
