The Toledo Blade have an article about the new cp ride....
UNIDENTIFIED ATTRACTION BEING BUILT AT CEDAR POINT
"Sandusky- Two years after it opened the world's tallest & fastest coaster, Millennium Force, Cedar Point is building its next attraction. Plans submitted to the city show the structure to be 270 ftt high and cover 1,452 square feet.
While Rollercoaster Enthusiasts would love to see another record breaking coaster, the land for the ride is significantly smaller than Millennium's 13 acres.
Cedar Point Officials declined to indentify the project, but said it will open before the park closes in October."
Well, is the SlingShot going to be new for next year or they going to build something else??
I cant wait, im actually going to the PO!NT tomorrow!
1452 square feet is about a 38'x38' square.

Cedar Point - One small part of a whole big life.
The slingshot's structure (as reported by the Sandusky Register is going to be 270 ft. tall. Coincidence? I think not.

It looks like the Toledo Blade basically copied the Register article.

Well, there you go. Personally, I don't really consider it another ride, since undoubtedly it will be a pay-per-ride attraction. An interesting addition certainly, but not so newsworthy as is being touted. Let's just wait and see what's built inside the park without an additional fee.

Since no other park has this new ride (except SFMM.. their's also under construction or has it even started?) is this like the first time CP has bought a "prototype" ride, and not one that another park has built?

Not really, because think about it- Millennium Force was highly a prototype with its elevator lift.

That doesn't make it a prototype ride. Cedar Point doesn't make prototypes, and may still not if SFMM finishes theirs first. But I'm guessing not seeing how fast they're going over there. :)

Why would Cedar Point not finish building the Slingshot if Magic Mountain finished theirs first? That doesn't make much sense to me...

He means that Cedar Point's slingshot won't be a prototype since it's not the first of its kind completed. SFMM's slingshot would be the prototype.
Gemini and Cedar Point!, the Register is one of the Blade's wire services.
Actually isn't the one at the S&S HQs in Utah the prototype? It doesn't really matter if SFMM or CP finishes it first, they will still be the same ride.
Ok.. here's the deal.. after talking to the head guy from ALL Erection and Crane Rental in Cleveland and Tyson from S&S Power Sports.
First.. the prototype in Utah no longer exsists. They took it down just as Tyson got back form Spain so he never got a chance to test ride.
Second.. SFMM is behind schedule due to a few things. They have been pouring all thier resources into Deja Vu and 'X'. Now they are in a mad rush to get thier 'slingshot' put up.. however.. they have run into a slight snag.
Their crane went down two days ago..
The guy form ALL Crane said that he was told that CP wants this up before anyone else, and that is the goal and aggresive schedule they are working with right now.
I don't know about you but 30 days from ground break to public access seems like a pretty big deal.
But I am amazed at how fast these guys are working, as I've been there the last 3 nights in a row watching and taking pics and talking to the crews. It's gonna be fun..
And yes I will be there opening day.. If I have to get there at 4am to wait. I've watched this baby rise from literaly the point where parts rolled onto CP property. I want to ride this monster..

I was just looking at the construction pictures of SFMM's ride, and it looks like they want to finish first as much a CP does.

Former name was B-Town
I can't wait to try this baby out! Does anyone know an exact starting date?

I'm looking for the link to this Toledo Blade article. I couldn't find it by using their search. If anyone has it, please send it my way. Thanks!
