Hi,
What a WILD storm today at Cedar Point. Around 6pm or so the sky went from clear to BLACK in a matter of minutes. From my vantage point at Soak City it was one of the most intense storms I have experienced (at least in the past few years).
Lot's of wind, tables flew everywhere!! I have reports of Sky Ride, PT, and MF all taking lightning strikes. The Cedar Point train being disrupted by trees over the track, and dead fish in kiddy kingdom :) Even tree limbs on the roof of Cedars!!
All and all a WILD day here!! Seems like the storm of the summer is now history! But ya never know around here :)
All is good, nothing broke and no one was hurt, so on we go to what could very well be the busiest day of the year tomarrow (Saturday).
See ya at CP!

I read on another site of a person that was at MF when the storm hit and supposedly lightning struck MF knocking out the computer system which completely disabled it. Is this true?
Lightning can mess up the computer systems of different rides, and you have no idea how often Power Tower is hit! Wow! The computers have to be reset is all, it's no big deal.

I was wondering what CP does for the guests in the event of a severe storm. Anyone know?

"the Force of the new Millennium is being felt by those who choose to seek it.
My county was under a Tornado warning. And to answer JT Coaster's question, CP shuts down all the rides (If it is a serious storm) and urge all the guests to see shelter somehow while the storm passes. Most guests get their souvenir shopping done at this time because a lot of them just go into the shops and restaurants.

I think I read a info sheet at the trains station, it had torndaos, and sever storms.I was not able to read it, I wish I was able to.
If the storm is really severe, they really do do a lot of things. I was working Iron Dragon when the waterspouts came tearing through two years ago, bad enough that they called the rides and told us all to get off the platforms. We were gathering guests and letting them into the IMAX building and the stage area there, so they could be under shelter, and we were urging them to take cover in restrooms and such. If we were still on the platform, we can offer shelter up there too. Lots of guests do go shopping or into shows then, but they try to do everything they can.

That's just about the LAST place I'd want to be during a tornado!

All I know is that during an electrical storm, I want to be inside the Disaster Transport queue building. Steel box, grounded, and thus probably the safest place to be when it gets struck by lightning.....

I agree - I wouldn't want to be in the IMAX either! That's why we were all hiding in the restrooms by the Wildcat! :)

What luck! those storms usually wait for us to get there. last year wasn't bad, only had to spend 20 mins in the ladies bathroom during a storm

We are on our way!
The lightning did mess up the computer on Millennium Force. It was closed today.

Mantis How Much Can You Stand?
Granted, if I saw a waterspout, I wouldn't be taking shelter anywhere. I'd be running for the best camera angle :)

Well said, but I have never seen in all my years how fast a nice sunny afternoon can turn downright nasty than at Cedar Point. After surviving a bad storm that appeared out of nowhere 2 years ago (awesome lightning display over the lake) I now always keep one eye on the sky!

My brother was at Cedar Point yesterday and said MF was closed all day because it was struck by lightning. He said something about the brakes being not working. A lot of people were at the park simply to ride MF and they didn't get to! I know I sure would be mad. PKI passes out free tickets. Shouldn't CP do something similar?
They pass out a pink sheet and you can take it to a ride, enter though the exit and the ride ops. tell you to pick a set and then you can ride. It;s sweat to spike the line!
if you wach the clouds carefully(something i do while waiting)you can see them actually build up out of nothing into some that look nasty, after a while you can almost tell when thats going to happen, last summer my friend thought i was nuts when i told him we were gonna get a storm within an hour, well,it ended up being about 45 mins and we were getting soaked, which wasnt all that bad considering it was 95 out right before that, alot of people were out walking in the downpour with us even,i believe it was july 6 99 if anyone remebers last year(we eventually ended up in the day area in raptors line, rode 3rd train after startup!then rode 4 more times in 30 mins!
Those pink sheets are special access forms for people with disabilities, whether temporary (broken ankle) or permanent. Remember, CP does not guarentee that any ride will be working, and there are no refunds for a broken ride! Sorry! If a ride closes down while you are in line and stays that way, sometimes they will give you ride tickets for something else. This year, my husband and I were waiting for MF when it broke, and they gave everyone in line $5 of Snoopy money, good anywhere in the park. At least it was something, and we got to go on later in the day.
