Thanks Walt! I haven't been to Cedar Point since 1990. I have looked at the Cedar Point Web-site and Noticed ALOT of Changes to Cedar Point!!!

Now My Daughter is 13 and My Son is 11. They are both tall enough to ride all the rides....Sam (Son) is a little hesisant about heights....Can you or anyone else give me an idea on how to start him off? Like what Rides should I start him on?

Woodstock Express, Mine Ride and Iron Dragon are all good ways to get your feet wet.

I have a fact sheet from the park that is full of ideas for families. I don't think it's on their web site, so I'll copy it here. The focus is on families with younger children, but it's still good info.

SANDUSKY, Ohio, 2006 - When it comes to family fun, Cedar Point is a place like no other — the amusement park/resort keeps young children and parents busy with attractions that produce big-time smiles, squeals and memories that will last a lifetime. For families looking for the most popular family-friendly activities, the following suggestions should be on every Cedar Point “to-do” list…

The Best Family Value - It’s now easier to visit the amusement park voted “Best Park on the Planet.” The ever-popular Junior ticket (ages 3-61, under 48" tall) returns in 2006 for only $9.95! And with the Senior ticket (age 62 and older) for $9.95, the entire family can stretch their entertainment dollar.

The Best Family Entertainment - Children and adults alike will enjoy a bit of a cool-down and intricate ice skating routines with the return of the PEANUTS ice show, “Snoopy’s Summer Vacation.” Presented in the 850-seat Good Time Theatre, this show is sure to put smiles on everyone’s face.

The Best Family Dining - The Midway Market is packed with food items that everyone will enjoy. When the kids can’t agree on one food item, this buffet-style restaurant will solve the problem!

The Best Family Cruise - Take a break from the action on the midway with a ride on Paddlewheel Excursions. The captain’s corny jokes will have the kids giggling on this leisurely ride on the lagoons of Cedar Point.

The Best Family Photo Opportunity - The Main Midway with its beautiful floral gardens offers the perfect backdrop for that special family keepsake photo.

The Best Family Coasters - The younger ones will enjoy a not-so-scary ride on the Junior Gemini and Woodstock Express roller coasters. Designed for kids who aren’t yet ready for the “big ones,” parents can enjoy these memorable rides with their children. The Disaster Transport and Iron Dragon roller coasters are popular with a little bit older riders.

The Best Family History Lesson - Located next to the new Skyhawk thrill ride, the Town Hall Museum traces 136 years of Cedar Point history.

Areas Just For The Kids - Being a kid is easy at Cedar Point, featuring four different areas that cater to the little ones. Camp Snoopy, Gemini Children’s Area, Kiddy Kingdom and PEANUTS Playground feature a vast collection of rides and special attractions designed with children in mind! Camp Snoopy features seven rides, including the 38-foot-tall Woodstock Express roller coaster; plus the world-famous PEANUTS characters making daily appearances for that perfect photo opportunity. Laughs and screams of delight can be heard in Gemini Children’s Area, adjacent to Camp Snoopy, on rides like the Frog Hopper and the Bumper Boats, while Kiddy Kingdom and PEANUTS Playground give plenty of pint-sized fun with dozens of rides and play equipment.

Stellar Family Entertainment - Families give rave reviews to the award-winning live entertainment lineup at Cedar Point, which showcases everything from karaoke for kids and the history of American music to graceful ice skating and live rock ‘n’ roll.

A Childs First Spin - The first amusement park ride for most infants is traditionally the carousel, and Cedar Point has three of them to help start that family tradition. The Kiddy Kingdom Carousel and Midway Carousel are adorned with chariots that are ideal for parents and their youngsters to comfortably sit and enjoy the gentle rotation and music of these hand-carved beauties. For older children, the Cedar Downs Racing Derby spins around a “track” at a faster pace of 15 mph - rare for a carousel!

A Visit With The Animals - Kids love the Early Petting Farm on the shaded Frontier Trail where they can interact with adorable barnyard animals such as goats, piglets, calves and sheep. Grab the camera — there’s sure to be a moment you won’t want to miss!

Water Fun For Everyone - On a hot summer day, nothing cools the family off like a visit to the scenic Cedar Point Beach on Lake Erie, the adjacent Soak City waterpark and year-round Castaway Bay indoor waterpark resort. Splash the day away as certi?ed lifeguards supervise all the action. No matter what time of year, it’s a full day of wet and wild family adventure!

Dito with what Walt said.

Make sure your son rides Wicked Twister (well, once his feet are wet). It's definitley a must-ride!

And yeah, Millennium Force and Top Thrill Dragster are also must-rides! (But not for the timid)

Tim

One piece of advice I'll give is to avoid going to the park on Saturdays in the summer months. If at all possible, go on weekdays early in the season.

Your kids at at a great age to start enjoying Cedar Point. That's about the same age we took ours for the first time, and they still go back every year - with or without us!

To being an "us" for once - instead of a "them"

...And don't let the kids get dehydrated... be sure to get them a free cup of water at participating food venues... ;)

Don't forget Cedar Point isn't all about rides, some of the shows are very fun, especcially for children (like me). There is such an atmosphere there! :D

Summer was made for a Cedar Point day~

The main thing is just let the little ones go at there own pace, and then when their confidence gets built up,thats when you absolutly wear Blue Streak out. Then you have a coaster kid ready for anything. That is the way my parents started me,thats the way I got my kids started I'm sure there are many others on this sight that was started the same way.

My first coaster EVER was the Mine Ride....and I was scared b/c my sisters told me it would fall apart. I probably rode Mine Ride about 5000 times....then stepped up to Gemini (which, according to a friendly ride op, was "just like mine ride only bigger...and he was right")

Oddly enough, I never rode Blue Streak until I was about 15 or so...Gemini just opened every door....until (enter timpanis here) Magnum.

It sadly took me 3 years to build up the courage to ride that. But honestly after that, I was good to go for anything.

The only coaster that has made me VERY anxiosu since then was my first ride on TTD. In the front seat. At night.

Thanks to everyone who has helped. The funny thing is....I have one kid (Sam) who is a little scared of the roller coaster, and then I have Jennifer! My No-Fear Kid.....She was begging me this evening after we looked at the Cedar Point site if we can ride TTD first!!!! Then she wants to ride MF!!! Two totally Different Kids!!!

Now if you can only tell me how to get Jennifer to stop teasing her little brother about this......YOU HAVE A FRIEND FOR LIFE!!!!!!

Thanks Again!!!!!

I can help.

Duct tape over the mouth. Works every time.

LOL!! I don't think that will help!!!

I did talk to my brother however and he is the same way as Sam is. And since my Husband can't go with us on our first trip this season. I have invited him. He is Sam's Favorite Uncle. So We have decided that those two can go off on their own and ride the "tamer" Rides while Jennifer and I can go be the "wild girls" and Start with the TTD!!

I feel like one of my kids however....I am getting so excited about going!!! We Have Plans to spend the 4 nights in a snoopy suite at Breakers....I have decided that since reading all the wonderful things about the resorts that would be the best place to stay!! We just can't wait to go...It is almost killing us to wait!!!! *** Edited 3/30/2006 7:33:24 PM UTC by Sam&Jennifersmom***

Brandon

This is another question for you all......BTW....Thanks for being so kind to a new member!! :-)

I was playing on line at work....Which I am doing right now....(looks around to see if boss is watching) Since we have decided to do a Snoopy Suite at the Breakers....And we are going for 4 nights 3 days. Should we cut our trip down a day and do one of the Package deals that they have? Or should we just stick to getting a season Pass, Since we are planning going at least once a month during the summer?

Thanks.....(going to go back to work now!, have to pay for this somehow! lol)

djDaemon's avatar

I would think season pass would be the way to go. There isn't a terrible amount of savings with the packages, as compared to a season pass when you're making several trips in one season.

Of course, I'm not entirely sure of the savings breakdown.

Brandon

I would say the season pass even if you don't go all that much it makes a cool souvenir make sure you get the parking pass to.
