Years ago I was on a coaster that timed every ride.......and displayed the time.....has CP ever done this.......I know TTD had the MPH....I just thought it was cool that you know if one ride was faster or slower than the previous ride.....just a thought
Most of them only vary by a couple of seconds at most. Although one time in 1999, I was on Magnum where the total ride time was ridiculously low (measured from the top of the lift to the brakes). We almost didn't make it up the second hill. It was awesome.
Modern rides like Millennium Force actually display the time to the operator. I think the operating manuals even say you shouldn't run the ride outside of a certain time range.

Coasters where wind is a big factor, like Magnum, are timed every hour to see if the ride is running faster or slower than it should be.

I think Danimal was asking if they are displayed to guests (ala the TTD speed disply). As far as I know, none of the rides display the time anywhere that the public could view it.

I'm not certain, but Wicked Twister, Top Thrill Dragster, and Maverick are very precisely controlled because they are all launched and possibly Millennium Force with its cable system. The only other instance I can think of where a coaster might be clocked for speed is when it is entering a brake or trim for ideal friction. Only maintenance would have access to something like that.
As for public display, Top Thrill Dragster is the only one I'm aware of for any coaster ever built. It is there solely for the overall theme of the ride.
Not exactly related, but it is always funny to hear the reactions after a rollback and how everyone seems to think that the ride has to hit a specific speed to make it over. If it were that simple, TTD would never rollback.

The speed on Dragster is kind of pointless too, because it doesn't vary more than a couple of miles per hour.
What I was getting at is that there's so little variance from one cycle to the next that it'd be kind of pointless. They tell you the ride time as they dispatch you. :)

Does the speedometer still wok on Dragster? I don't think I saw it running this summer.
I don't even know what a spad is.

^ Maybe a new type of potato?
Well I never saw the "speedometer" working this year. It was just blank.

Was it blank or VERY sunny?

I still think it would be cool to know your time......I remember hearing the control booth announcing that was the fastest time of the day......I was like 10 years old and still remember it.....
^That is true. The manual says Corkscrew's ride time is 1:40, while with one train operation, it takes 2:06 from the moment a train starts and stops in the station. :)
One train operation was always fun.

^ - Sadly, with 3 train operation it takes about 6 or 7 minutes from the time you leave to the time you re-enter the station.

I got the extended, painful, cold ride. Just as we left the station, it started to rain. By the time we reached the top of the lift, the "rain" had turned to slush. We were done before the next train left the station....so we waited for that one and the next one before we were able to unload.
Had to go back to the cabin and change because we were wet and frozen. I have much disdain for CorkScrew now. Not only the seatbelts, but the crew that day was moving like they were told to take their time.

Pretty much every coaster is timed. It's the basis for knowing whether or not a train will rollback, or approaching a point where it could rollback.
