Hey guys-
I am a huge coaster fan. Normally, when I go to Cedar Point I ride most of the rollercoasters and maybe a few other rides. My family will be going to Cedar Point on Wednesday. We were thinking of getting on Thunder Canyon. Does anyone know if this ride gets you soaked? Would it be better to ride this as one of our first rides? Should we wear our swim tops and shorts?
your answer would be yes you do get soaked. It is a good ride to wear swimming stuff if you dont you will be wet all day , and most likley miserable.
We rode Thunder Canyon yesterday morning and it is more of a hit or miss type of ride...you either get soaked or just a little damp. We didn't have bathing suits on, so we just went in our clothes. My friends were soaked, while I was just a little damp. Our clothes dried quick, but our shoes were waterlogged for most of the day. Therefore, you may want to think about storing your shoes in a locker before boarding.
What I always do on each Water Ride is give my shirt, socks, and shoes, and my fanny pack to a family or a friend that doesn't go on the ride with me. Then it will just be my shorts that will be wet and when I get off I can dry my face and hair with my shirt.
I rode it on CoasterMania when it was 94 dergrees and only got misted, so you never really know. I 'd say ride it midday so you can get dried off.

Always pack a complete change of clothes for Thunder Canyon and SRF. There are restrooms located right by both water rides so changing is easy.
You can also wear a poncho if you do not want to change your clothes. It's not a very good idea to wear your shoes and socks on the water rides though.

You will get soaked.

I've been on tons of times and left the ride with barely a drop on me. It all depends on where you're sitting when the inner tube hits the waterfalls, walls, etc. Because it's not on a track the tube moves freely and every ride is a little different. It could happen that you're on the opposite side of the water splashes every time your tube hits one, or you could hit all of them.
Expect to get soaked, because on any raft ride a litteral wave can (and usually does) come crashing in on top of your lower half (and rebounds to throughly soak your back.) The waterfalls these things have usually throughly soak whatever dry parts you still have.
As for SRF. There is no avoiding getting soaked, litterally no way, the thing creates a wall of water that then proceeds to come back down, on you. It feels like a torrential rain storm.
It is for those reasons that I only ride Shoot the Chutes and Raft Rides in a bathing suit. Log rides, can get you soaked (and on some models it is as certain as the other two types of water rides) but most only mist your upper body.
I've had Thunder Canyon rides where I've stayed dry, but, like Touchdown said, expect to get drenched.
Spring a couple bucks for a locker, and bring swimmwear, unless rain is in the forecast. I rented a locker last year, rode thunder canyon, and then it rained. Then the swimming gear was just something extra for me to go and get from the locker at the end of the day since I was wet anyway. Allways ride water rides last.

Thanks so much guys! I can't wait until Wednesday and see which one of my family members will get soaked the most (hopefully it won't be me)!
I've been on Thunder Canyon a handful of times. More often then not you'll get soaked. I do remember the time though that I cruised right through the centre of all of the waterfalls. I wish every ride was like that.
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete
