Thunder Canyon

Jeff, u said in the ride section that Thunder Canyon gets drained every day. Why is that?

Most likely so that they can check for debris - lost articles, trash, and so forth, and to check for safety: the rapids are made by 2x4s, and they would want to make certain that none of them have come loose. It's really neat to watch it fill - it only takes a few minutes!

Thunder canyon and white water landing are the only two water rides left at CP that still use lake erie water! When Snake river falls was added, a new state law was already in effect that they have to use fresh treated water. I think maybe thats another reason why they drain Thunder canyon, you stink only after one ride, imagine if the water was left in there for a week???

It's drained because without the pumps on there is no water.

I guess it would start to smell bad after a while, good point!

When I went last year, there were ride ops at the front of the queue that said they "ran out of water", was this a true statement, or did they just drain it?
Thunder Canyon has a reservoir at the bottom of the ride which contains enough water to operate the ride. In operation, the trough is filled by large pumps which draw the water from the reservoir up into the top of the trough at the top of the lift. When the pumps are shut off, because the whole course is downhill, the water all runs down the trough and ends up in the reservoir. Simple enough...

Water for the ride enters the reservoir from Sandusky Bay through a 12" culvert. I'm pretty certain, though, that both White Water Landing and Snake River Falls use treated, recirculated water.
