Thoughts of alternating track colors

It now appears that there will only be alternating colors on one side of the tower, at least, that's the way it looks right now on the webcam (better lighting will show otherwise). Why?? Has anyone ridded Great Bear at Hersheypark? Anyone notice the yellow chevrons on the ground underneath the track as you travel near the pond after the loop?

One reason for those markings is to distinguish a low clearance zone for workers. Another is a great visual effect. When on the train, the alternating yellow/"not yellow" pattern accentuates speed making it feel like you're going faster. Perhaps the launch on CP2003 will have this same alternating pattern to accentuate it's speed.

I think that it would make it look faster on the ride, but it might look wierd.
I like it, its something new and different we haven't see on any other coaster we have.

Scott,

I don't think that is track. I think that is a smaller crane. The place that track is positioned would have to be supported by the diagonal support coming from the bottom of the tower and it does not look like it is in place.

I could be wrong, but that is what I see.

So then I would assume that this would be the launch side no? You would expect it to make an even greater visual as you are gaining speed. I have to say that would be pretty incredible!

I agree with you Jack. If you look at the web cam, the piece is gone now.
or it's just below the tree line. Obviously the tophat isn't going to be half white half red, we have already seen two twisting pieces of track that are red. This is all assuming that the track only twists 90 degrees on each side.

I was incorrect with a white piece being mounted. As I said, the lighting was pretty bad when I started this and couldn't be 100% sure about it. Any way, this still makes a decent topic.

Actually I'm pretty sure that a white piece is indeed mounted, it's just higher up on the tower, and it was tough to see because it blends in with the sky. It looks like it is connected to the highest "triangular" connection point and the horizontal connection point just below it. It's easier to see now with the sun down.

Majin's right. There is a white piece attached on the midway side. My guess is that they wanted to get that one up in a hurry to "support" the unbraced horizontal connection point just like they did on the other side. I'm pretty sure they were using a strap in the mean time just like on the lagoon side

There is now alternating red and white track on the midway side of the tower. Looks like I might have been a day early with this thread :)

I think it will be sweet to have alternative track colors.

I'm not a huge fan of the alternating colour scheme to be honest. I think the yellow, red, white, tan, and who knows what else, colour combination is odd. I suppose I wouldn't mind it as much if they alternated the colour along the launch track where it isn't sticking it's ugly head above the trees. Otherwise, ugghh. I much prefer the solid red track.
Heres a possible theory about the colors...

Maybe the side with the alternating color, is the pullup. I say that, because maybe the launch will be striped, and the stripes end once the track gets near vertical. Doesn't drag racing have striped track on those long streatched (I know little about drag racing so bear with me). There have been a lot of short, and straight pieces, maybe for part of the launch?

Thats just my 2 cents though :)

Hasn't it already been established that it will be the pull up? And no, there are no launch pieces there yet...there would have to be a slot down the middle where the launch mechanism sits.

Just heard from a friend that was at CP tonight that not only is white track up, but columns are up all along the straight path leading to the tower. Also, the place was packed. 45 minute MF line and huge haunted house lines. I'm glad I stayed home. I am spoiled by the special access gate being open for awhile last weekend.

Yep. cp.com was offering buy one-get one coupons for Friday night. Plus, good weather never hurts. If the weather holds, expect crowded Fridays here on out.
