Those adorable "You Must Be This Tall" ride character signs

(see photos section --> Historical --> Ride Character Signs to see what I'm talking about)

So I went to Cedar Point last month and... THEY'RE GONE!!! Why'd they get rid of them? They were cute!

They've been gone for quite a while (I want to say 2000).

The best guess (at least that I've heard) is that the legal warning got to be so much that they had to drop the character signs in order to have enough room for all the legal-ese.

^huh?

Why would there be legal issues with those, other than licenses with Peanuts and such?

Man that is a bummer. That would explain no Mantis or Power Tower character sign, then.

Shows you how rarely I visit Cedar Point.

^^ Read it again. Out loud if you have to.

He was saying that the lawyer-speak on the ride warning signs got to be so long that they needed to make room by getting new signs.

I assume stuff like, "RAPTOR is not recommended for persons with heart trouble, back trouble, women who are pregnant..." and so on would be very difficult to fit in the character balloon.

Non of the characters used were licensed characters.

Josh, got my point (and explained it a bit better).

The amount of legalese that had to go on the signs got to be too much for the character signs. So they had to go to the generic signs.

Hey on a different note there is a guy selling the character signs from Kennywood on ebay. One is Charlie Brown

Maybe I'm biased, but those don't look anywhere NEAR as cool as the Cedar Point ones.

I'll have to agree.

That looks like a rabbit, not a kangaroo.

At least Magnum's looked like a storm trooper.

2000 was about the time I started going to CP on a more than once a year basis. I don't remember Any of those signs.

I don't recall MF ever having a sign like that, but I know Power Tower did. Sometime around then it changed. Too bad, another minor theming element gone.

What about Woodstock Express? That was 1999.

Are you all talking about the little boy with the yellow hair?? If so, those have been longer than since 2000. They took those out in maybe the late 70s or so.

Yes, those were replaced with these back in 1979.

I've never understood why the lawyer infected signs that are in place today and the character signs couldn't co-exist. If you want to see a couple of the character signs, check out the dead ride graveyard during Halloweekends, there are usually a few in there.

What's odd is that I remember the character signs having the "not recommended if you have heart or back trouble, or if you're pregnant" or whatnot, under the "you must be this tall" part. The only part of the new signs that wasn't on the old, IIRC, is the "Ohio Revised Code" BS.

Count me on the "screw the lawyers, bring back the character signs" list.

Yeah, that was really the only kind of sign Magnum ever had at the queue entrance. Now there's nothing.

I agree espically after seeing this at Dorney last year.

If you want to see the character signs next season, start sending the emails. The best way to get the park to listen is to get enough people to tell them the same thing.
