This is why I dont like Twitter

Not directly about Cedar Point but I thought this artical was funny!

Looks like Kalahari Tweeted about a Father's Day package and used the hash tag #Sandusky but it didnt link to what they wanted it to. It took people to info about Jerry Sandusky. not really something you want to link to a family tourism town.

That is why you don't like Twitter? Because there are idiots out there that don't know how to use it properly?

I know I am in the minority, especially at my age (24) but I really "dislike" twitter and facebook. I have plenty of reasons why, but yeah... I can't wait for the fad to drop off just like it did with myspace and whatever else. I am still rocking AIM actually to talk to my friends, or I use a phone... And I don't have to be on a website chat box (facebook) t o talk to everybody. Facebook IMO, is a terrible way to just chat with people and not just have "status update" conversations.

Never got into it though... I have accounts for both but have never used twitter except for a contest and facebook to pass time. I can see the benefits of both, but I don't need either. Nor do I care how many friends I got or how many people care about what I am doing day to day. My life, not theirs.

Just me though... I know MANY feel the complete opposite and that is fine. I just don't get the fascination with it all.

You know it! :)

No reason to get away from it... Except the fact everybody else seems to have. I still chat with my girlfriend and a few buddies through it though. Just easiest for me, I can't stand talking on facebook.

The only think I use AIM for is Facebook chat. Most of my friends are on Yahoo.

I agree with you 100%!! You are not alone my friend!

Facebook will go the way of MySpace, Friendster and the like.

I agree also. It sounds like Facebook is already on its downward slide. You can find several articles comparing it to AOL, like this one http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2375715,00.asp

And I read another article saying how the Facebook games had a sudden downturn in usage.

To me its just a big waste of time. My wife can spend hours on Facebook and why? To find out what someone had for lunch today or that they are having a bad days with their kids or to see someones latest vacation pic? Who cares? I guess a lot of people do, but I can find more interesting ways to spend my time.

There are just as many who would say the same about people who visit this website, even if once a week.

Probably, but it's not a certainty. MySpace and Friendster peaked at around 100,000,000 users. Facebook currently has 900,000,000. That's an awful lot of social momentum.

Yeah, keeping up on the lives of people you care about is dumb.

I have a twitter but I only use it to follow like Cedar Point or the Cleveland Indians. I think it's stupid though. I do use my Facebook and I love it. I use my Instagram from time to time, it's just the twitter of posting pictures though.

I HATE Instagram because of the filters people put on EVERY picture they take now.

Preach it!

I told the people at work that if I ever signed up for Facebook I would come to work in a tube top!

Isn't that the point of Instagram?

You aren't old enough yet to have experienced the dispersion of your friends and family. When you can't easily visit 90% of the people around you, Facebook's utility becomes very obvious. That, and having nearly a billion users hardly makes it a fad.

As for Twitter, I've never found it particularly useful.

Jeff - Advocate of Great Great Tunnels™ - Co-Publisher - PointBuzz - CoasterBuzz - Blog - Music

I've found that Twitter is one of those mediums that you either like or just don't get. I like it, I can't really explain why, so I'll leave it at that.

And I agree with Jeff: If your social life is even remotely geographically dispersed, Facebook is there to make sure that moving back to your crappy southeastern Ohio hometown doesn't completely cut you off from the dozens of people you met when you went to college in Michigan. Especially when there's almost literally nobody I know my age left in said hometown.

I think the added gimmicks of Facebook like the games and whatnot will eventually peter down, but the basic guts of Facebook, i.e. what it was right at the beginning, still serve a very useful purpose.

To be honest, most of my friends/family live in different states than me. So I am pretty "dispersed". But I get your point.

I get why facebook is useful for so many... It is a great tool for that very reason as Jeff has stated. But many people use it for other reasons that to me is just silly.

It is a great *tool*, for sure. For those who use it correctly. Otherwise its just worthless nonsense :) To me, at least.

Why can't it just be something you enjoy doing and not be worthless and a waste of time? I could say the same about Pointbuzz or any website/hobby for that matter.

I am talking for myself, not anybody else. I understand you love facebook/twitter/whatever 99er, clearly... Don't get offended or bothered by my opinion. My opinion really doesn't matter! :)

People enjoy what they enjoy, for sure. Not saying otherwise. I am just saying I am not a big fan of it.
