The summer of '65

Several new rides opened including the Space Spiral and Turnpikes. The new games complex opened Jungle Larry and his animals arrived at the park and several classic rides and attractions were still there such as the Sky Wheel, Satellite Jets, Chicken patio, Mill Race, the old Stagecoach ride and the Scamper. Also the train station was closer to the Sky Ride. Back then you got tickets for rides or got a wrist band. The Eden Musee wax museum was nearing its end but was stiil open. Attendence topped a million for the first time. It also was the first season that I was alive and could go to the park. Back then CP's main competitors were Euclid Beach, Meyer's Lake, Chippewa Lake, Geauga Lake, Idora Park, Indian Lake, and to the south Coney Island. Kings Island was still 7 years away. Legendary parks like Palisades and Riverview were still around. The theme park boom hadn't really started yet and nationwide only a couple of coasters were opened. My how times have changed

If I had a time machine, I would go back to every other year to see what the park looked like. Pictures just don't do justice.

I agree. I would love to go back in time and see the park thru the years. Absolutly amazing.

The world looks better at 420 feet in the air... first ride May 14th, 2005

only 997 laps left on MF..

So i resurrect dead post... is that a bad thing?

did anyone catch that show on pbs the other night? something about old theme parks? since CP is the second oldest in the country, it was on there. it was cool to see all of the old rides and stuff. the ones that were in the lake were the best.

i love going into the grand ballroom and imagining what that place was like when it first opened. :)

Mr McKinley are you depressed? Every topic of yours is sad or depressing do you like the new CP or GL at all?

I didn't know that a person could still go into the ballroom.

I saw the show about old amusement parks. It was very interesting. I like history of amusement parks.

I remember going to a little amusement park in southern Ohio when I was very young with my grandparents. It was in Middletown. I don't remember the name of it, but I remember being there. Isn't that funny?
