The "new" DT

Alright, since the other thread is closed I figured I would open up a new one. Before I walk through, let me tell you that the whole queue is now filled with black lights. The first thing you'll notice when you walk into the queue is that there are new pictures in the first room. Remember the pictures they took down for the haunted house with the city names on top, a picture in the middle, and "Dispatch Master Transport" on the bottom? Well now they have black light posters with the same idea, although the pictures are a little cartoonish and it says "Disaster Transport" at the bottom, they were nice to see. Of course in that room they were also selling the 3D glasses (and surprisingly, MANY people bought them).

Up next is the long hallway with the metal walls. Now, it's very dark (except for black lights) and there are various black-light painted things. In one part, there are neon hand prints all over the walls. In another, there are painted neon tiles on the floor. Then when you get to the part with the glass on the left and the picture of the crates, the picture has been given a coat of neon paint as well (it's still the same picture though).

And then comes the Repair Bay. Once again, littered with black lights. The queue snakes around a fenced-off center area with two "laser towers" - one on its side and the other standing up. Kinda hard to describe, you have to see them. Funny thing is, on the little fence surrounding the laser towers, there is a sign that is supposed to say "DANGER: HIGH VOLTAGE". But instead, I realized that it said "DANGER: HGIH VOLTAGE". It actually took me a while to notice, and I don't thing anyone else around me noticed. Is it possible that they threw this together so quick that even CP didn't notice? ;) Or maybe it's just a joke or something... Also, the left repair bay has moving robotic arms that are "working" on the DT vehicle, and there is a nice light that makes it look like sparks. Everything else (the hanging net, etc) is still there.

The only thing done to the stairs is some added red lights.

Then the ride. I was really hoping that they would do both the queue and the ride, but it was not to be. In the first room and the helix room, there were some "star" light effects, and the satellite in the middle of the helix looked a little different, but other than that, all the lights were just turned off. They even got rid of the strobes at the end of the ride.

Maybe they are still working on new theming for the ride itself, and that's why they had the lights off. We'll just have to see...

I'm going to take a wait and see approach here too. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the changes to be quite honest. The only two things that are dissappointing are "I'm losing control" and the strobes in the helix are gone.

I noticed the "Hgih Voltage" sign too and burst out laughing... loud enough for people to stare at me!

As for the handprints and the tiled floor- sure, it sounds (and looks cheesy) but it's entertaning! I'd rather have hokey 3-D effects than a dark boring hallway! Yes, I know somebody put lots of hard work into it and I appreciate it. Plus, I was able to purchase the first piece of anything I've ever owned (and actually had in my hands, long story) that says Disaster Transport on it... 3D glasses! And only a buck too! :)

"Those weren't trims, that was a buzzcut" - A Mean Streak rider

Thankyou for making this post, because I was really anxious to find out what they did to the ride, and the last post didn't really help. Did anyone purchase the glasses? Because I was wondering, do they make the ride more stimulating, or is it the same without them?

Cedar Point is the best. I will never stop loving it. You gotta, You wanna, You have to hold on...Cedar point hold on!! :) :) :)

I got the glasses and really they make their biggest impact in the queue. The "starfield projection" is really just some lighting with a gobo in it projecting white dots on the ceiling. They do look a little more like they're floating in space with the glasses on. They're just a buck, and they say "Disaster Transport: in 3D!" on them, so that's worth it right there if you're a fan.

There is music in the helix room too, forgot to mention that. I'm not sure what it is just yet, but it sorta sounded for a second like the Space Mountain theme... I'll keep you posted!

Same old ride, same ugly building, now more ugly given its beautiful surroundings.

Hey, they improved the "metal hall" how I said they should! :) I think it's cool that they lace the queue with black lights. I like seeing white shirts extra bright, and seeing just how dirty black shirts are. :)

The first thing I said when I entered the "new" DT was: "Cool, now it really looks like a cheesy dark ride with all the black light effects!"

With WT going in next door, they had to do something to spruce it up. They didn't go entirely overboard with it, but it's still effective. I'm just happy they got the robotic arms working again and that they finally shut off all the lights on the ride.

Hey, at least Cedar Point only has ONE ride housed in a big ugly beige warehouse...!

I liked it. It wasn't too overboard, but it puts some of the life back into the ride. At least it's in the dark now.

"Mean Streak would be better if they replaced the square wheels with round ones."
VertiGo: VertiGone but not forgotten.

My kid started to freak out. He thought we were going into the haunted house. Same curtain at the entrance into the first area. Same type of person selling 3d glasses. I had to calm him down.

I thought the rest of it was cool.. The kids loved it. Change is good. I doesn't appear to be a big $$ make over. It does appear they do care some. I always felt bad for DT and people who saw it. It is now presentable.

I still like it better than looking a broken junk. I think the reduction of lighting adds some suspense to the ride. I stress the word some.

They do need to drop the alaska bit. Just give the standard thanks and get out rap. Even with the new theming where does alaska fit into it? It's dark now with little white light dots. (We all know the Alaskan trip theme stuff from the DT conversion.) If this is your first time to CP wouldn't you get off the ride and say.."What the heck is Alaska all about?"

What do the employees think? Wouldn't you want to just forget the Alaska part on accident? I would feel kind of dumb having to say it for every load of people.

This isn't to offend anyone, just an observation.

Tip of the day:

Re-entry stamps make for fun black-light paint while waiting for Disaster Transport. You should see the war faces we had painted on by the time we reached the station ;o)

"Whose bright idea was it to get him talking about Cedar Point?!"

I agree with most positive points about the ride. When my friends and I went NO ONE else was there...except, of course, for a couple girls that sat behind us and screamed as loud as they could. Overall I think the improvements made the ride a more enjoyable.

Well, I am going to say it before anyone else does...TEAR DOWN THAT UGLY BUILDING. I don't believe any of the rumors about sand..etc. If sand were really the overall problem they wouldn't have built WT on a beach. I think all DT needs is open air and reconfiguring some of the curves to be more exciting and it will be worthwhile. Maybe they can call it Avalanche Run? Now that's an original name I came up with. I can just see DT in a year. The paint on the floor will be worn off (it was dirty and scratched by noon Sunday) and the effects will be broken. The new effects are cool, but appear short lived by past endeavors.
I like the ride and building. It covers the area of dark and themed ride in one. It also is a nice escape from the beating heat in the summer. That air conditioning is great!

Anonymous - the handstamp works better because when you get off the ride, it's invisible.

Yellow highlighter is near invisible as well. Gotta get me some of that ink.
