The mayflies!!! (Or whatever they are)

My wife has a friend flying out from California this spring and I was interested if anyone knows about when the bugs invade the park so she can schedule her vacation around it? (I know, May right?) :)

If anyone could help with a more narrow time frame it would be much appreciated!!!

Nash is right. The first week of June and they last a couple weeks. Something like that.

whats really bad is when the June bugs mix seasons with the Mayflies. It's like it's raining bugs.

There are actually two "bug" phenomena that Cedar Point is famous for.

Muffleheads, or midges, are the slimy little buggers that are probably the most irritating. There's a story about them in the feature section of this site written by my fiancee.

The other things, Mayflies, have the larger wings and generally don't get slimy, but tend to coat the ground. See them in the gallery. Steph wrote a piece about them as well, but I haven't gotten around to posting it.

Ah those May Flys. Those are the most annoying insects. Ate a few of them. Somewhat crunchy.

Two years ago, our car was loaded with them and i had my jacket over my head trying to dash through the parking lot, but anyway, we had one mayfly that stayed on our car from the second we left from CP to the time we pulled in our drive way, about an hour trip we had too!! What a resliant bug that was!! I should add, that we did 65 mph the whole way! lol

Muffleheads--
usually a "known addition" to Coastermania-I know I ate at least 3 of them riding Magnum. Squished quite a few of them on my hands riding too---
they died a painful but quick death!
They were EVERYWHERE-
kind of vanished once sun comes out
then reappear to "bug us some more" once sun set-
only TRUE ride freaks could "overlook" the bug juice all over the front of the coasters.....
they were nasty creatures
will see them again in June this year too!!
Know I cant wait--yummy
LOL

Just imagine that evening ERT at Coastermania (I assume they would do it) this year on MF! Heh heh... how big will the splats be at 92 mph?

I can clearly remember the Muffleheads at Coastermania last year, especially in Magnum's pretzel loop. The front of Magnum's trains were black from all of the Muffleheads that were splattered on them. I also remember riding Blue Streak about a week prior to Coastermania. There were so many of them that I had to pull my shirt up over my head the entire ride. I felt sorry for the people who didn't do this. Needless to say they were covered in bugs after the ride :)
Quoted from a message to me by Robin Innes:

"Coastermania '00 is scheduled for Friday, June 2. Ride time on Millennium Force is 7-9 a.m. You should receive information by February."

I can remember standing by the Dip-N-Dot wagon next to Dragons and watching the guests sacrifice themselves on the Wild Cat....

Swarms of millions of them that the car would go through. Thats nearly insane to put yourself through that.
Not to mention the strategy you had to have to get into your car after a 14 hour shift without taking the the whole crew home with you...of course that was provided that you were able to find your car somewhere underneath all those bugs! :)

In case you don't look at the home page and don't subscribe to the mailing list, I posted the story about mayflies in the feature section.
