The "Let's get-together between the 'winter get-to

TekGuy's avatar
Ok, here's that post I promised back in January.

The date for the Metro-Detroit get-together is March 22 (Saturday). What's not final is the location, although 'all signs point to GameWorks.' I'd say the start time should be maybe 7 pm... a little earlier than last time.

So... thread started... replies imminent... standing by. Everything's open to discussion except for the date.

Agreed upon the earlier time frame - Not that it matters though, I'll have my full operators licence by then :)

However if it could be at Dave & Busters, that's alot closer to me. I'll leave it to everyone else to agree upon location.

Problem with D&B is thier policy for under-agers. (that and it's an extra hour from my place).

Someone has to agree to be responsible for anyone under 21 years of age.

Didn't this happen at the D&B thing last year Mr. Haverlock??? ;)

Hmm.... I've been thinking about the whole between 18 and 21 group. I know GameWorks will give em the boot at 10. It's difficult for me to pick a place for everyone just because I remember how much I hated leaving at 10. But I really don't know of any places that allow 18-21 after 10 where you can sit and actually hear each other, and have the same "let's drive really far to go there" type of feeling like GameWorks has. Or maybe I'm mistaken?

BTW, with D&B, I'm not willing to put my background checks on the line for the under 21 crowd. Not only would it more than likely haunt me in the future, but my current income requires that it remain completely clean.

The only place I really go to when I'm with friends that are under 21 is Buffalo Wild Wings in Utica. There we can stay til 2am, and I can still have a beer or two. (For those that are curious, BW3's is at M-59 and Mound, which is about 2-ish miles west of Dave and Busters. From GameWorks, you'd take I-75 South about 5 miles to M-59 East, then go about 10 miles and exit at Mound. - 20 minute average drive time.)

Oh, if we do go to GameWorks, or any other NTN-enabled place (BW3's has it), and anyone feels like playing NTN by heading up before the official meeting time... let me know. NTN's fun!

I have three letters for ya.... R - C - F. ;)

Maybe we could move the time earlier for the 'youngins'? Idunno... 5, maybe? Depends on how many 'youngins' decide to come? But I think it'd be a good idea to keep it 18+, no matter what.

March is still a ways away..but i'm up for it if nothing comes up..and if my pockets can handle it..hehe...I love playing NTN..my vote is on GW's..

One thing I forgot to post... at the last meeting, someone (I think Joe?) dropped a CoasterBuzz Con 2002 pin. I have it still, and I can either give it back at the meeting, or mail it.

I've been to Buffalo Wild Wings before, great food, nice waitresses ;)

If that's an option, then my vote is for BW3. NTN r0x0r :D

I will say my personal vote is BW3's. But GameWorks is absolutely fine, too. If you're going to drive a great distance (Grand Rapids, Toledo, Sandusky, etc.) would you want to drive just so ya can sit? The nice thing about GameWorks is that it's not everywhere, so it gives some rational reasoning to, "Why should I drive all the way there?" for those that aren't local.

But like I said, everything's open for discussion but the date.

--- off topic alert! ---

Since I'm off this semester due to early health reasons (can you say bronchitis? I can... for 3 years in a row, except this year I beat it w/o getting it all the way!)... I head up to BW3's, gosh, 2 or maybe 3 times a week (can you say 'favorite hangout'?) I'm up for hanging out any time... umm... unless I'm at work, or you look like a serial killer. Email's on file... and if I like ya, you get my IM name lol. ;)

I know I am probably not helping, but any place is workable. I would be leaning toward GWs, since it is closer, but last time it was a bit loud to talk. I have never been to a BW3s, but I hear they have some awesome super hot wings…;) Besides, I have to be there, I never did get the name of the dude with the goatee, and was then really stumped a few weeks later when I ran in to him at the autoshow.
I don't mean to sound ignorant, but is everyone invited? I probably won't be able to come anyway because I can't drive. Has anyone thought about meeting at the point on opening day to meet each other in person?

[I'd like to take this moment and say Internet Explorer has crashed 3 times while trying to write this. I've had to rewrite it from scratch 3 times. I'd tell you what I believe the cause is, but I don't think I can under the EULA for it.]

MF310... it depends on the location we go to, and your age.

As far as meeting at CP on opening day, all I can say is when those gates open, I'll be bull-running to Dragster... if a meet-up is arrange, please arrange it, umm, later in the day, or before the gates open. :)

--------

One thing we need to remember is this is a meeting for all of us, so it should take place where the majority want to go. At the same time, age is going to play a role on who can attend, and how long they can attend. For example, at GameWorks, everyone under 21 must leave at 10pm, with no exceptions. If that's the place picked, then that's going to be how it is. Their rules, not mine. On the same note, if we go to BW3's in Utical, then 18+ is allowed in the restaurant area until close, which is 2am. For people under 18, I don't know for sure, but I don't think there'd be a problem. ??

Yes, GameWorks can be a bit noisy, but they do have DDR, which is a compelling reason for many people making the long trip up here... whereas BW3's would be quieter, and allow for 18+ after 10, but also would be a further drive for many going.

Here's how the votes stand... do note that I'm not voting in this. I'm just arranging it. 3 for GameWorks, 1 for BW3's. Therefore, if it were decided right now, it'd be GameWorks.

One other option I have is arranging 2 meeting weekends... one at BW3's in Utica and one at GameWorks. Or I could do a Friday/Saturday thing. I don't think these ideas will fly very long, but I'll throw them out there.

But do understand that I can't please everyone... someone's going to feel burned at the final decision... and I'm sorry, but I can't help it, and it's nothing against you. But it's going to happen, so prepare now.

You can only satisfy some of the people, some of the time...

Now that DDR has been brought up, GameWorks doesn't sound half bad... ;)

What is The Animatrix?

GameWorks or BW3's, either one sounds great. GameWorks preferred.

GameWorks it is. FINAL.

Now, the time. Is 7 a good start time, or should we tweak it further?

TekGuy, I was SO pissed I lost that pin. Sad thing, I'm the one who had em made. If I could get that back from you, that would rule. I'll be @ the gathering so if you want to hand it off then, thats cool, or email me and ill give you my address.

I'm also a BW3 fan, but I hit up the Novi branch twice a week or more. But yeah, Gameworks kicks ass for these gatherings. I still can't believe Rob got me hooked on DDR.
