The Future

Took the "we need your help" survey from Cedar Point to give feedback on their ideas for future ride installations. I kept waiting for the log flume or modern wooden coaster, but they never showed up to the party. These three did, however.

Yeah, I completed the survey this morning as well. It included a fireworks show and a Live-E interactive production as well. One of the multiple choice boxes was "would this compel you to make a special visit to the park?" No.

The muti-launch family coaster looks useful in the Mine Ride sort of category.

I'd try the suspended glider thing, but it likely would always break down.

I think something like Dollywood's family launcher would be super fun, though CP doesn't have the terrain to make it really interesting.

"riders straddle their bikes in a leaning, forward-leaning position..."

Will there be ATM machines that require PIN numbers in the queue line of this leaning, forward-leaning thrill ride? Sorry, but the description sounded a bit redundant!

^^While I do agree in regard to the terrain, I don't think it matters that much, to that audience. In the absence of terrain, decent theming can go a long way. And a well-themed modern family coaster could fill a big gap in CP's line-up.

Interesting to see mention of a nighttime spectacular following the removal of Celebration Plaza. Despite issues with the shows blocking the midway, there might be enough guests who miss having an evening finale like Luminosity.

"Thank the Phoenicians!"

Terrain obviously is never going to be great at CP but there's enough interesting stuff by SRF/Millenium Island/Forbidden Frontier that they could make a pretty cool layout for a family launch coaster if they did it right.

I also went and watch the Big Bear Mountain POV and its on a pretty flat piece of land really. CP could do something similar pretty easily with what they have to work with.

I referred to Big Bear Mountain specifically in my enthralling feedback, and of the three strongly leaned toward the multi-launch coaster. I agree that some of what's left of forbidden frontier is a good starting point with regards to theme.

I would pick the family multi launch.

My mother won't ride anything besides CCMR, Iron Dragon, and Wild Mouse. This would work for her.

Second, two of those coasters are potential near term removals. A Big Bear style ride would fill the void if one of those went away.

Of course, if Iron Dragon was removed, would you support a B&M Family Invert coming to the park sometime in the future?

Unofficial Rule of Ride Removals

You must announce removals in advance so people can get their last rides in, unless a major incident or malfunction prevents the ride from doing so.

This applies to roller coasters, flat rides, water rides, and so on.

Exceptions to this rule include upcharge attractions, waterpark rides, and rides that are effectively redundant within a park.

Hopefully because those are already part of their 5 year plan.

I think a ride like Big Bear Mountain or even FireChaser with a low height requirement and a cool theme would be extremely popular at Cedar Point and it could probably sell a lot of merch if done properly. Out of the options listed, I think that would be best for the park. The motorbike concept sounds like a gimmick to me and it would likely not be on a scale that would impress enthusiasts.

I've said it several times before, and I'll say it again. they need a clone of the Knott's Timber Mountain Log Ride. Combination dark ride and water ride. Throwing up more high rides at this point is not going to help things, IMHO.

Big Bear is an excellent idea, but Dolly’s version takes up a lot of space. Which they had there, on the back side of Wildwood Grove. Btw, it is on a hill. And it’s not BGW terrain, but it helps. It’s built up from the level of the walkway and the ride is a little hard to observe on account of that. I thought what was lacking was trees or at least some interesting vegetation. Which is a miss for Dollywood, imo. I just don’t know where I’d place something like that at CP without it being disappointing.
Move to the back side of the park for Firechaser which I think is an outstanding ride. There isn’t much like it here in the US and it’s novel. For CP something would have to be done about the short train. There’s a capacity issue and the line is frequently long and slow moving. Firechaser is also on a slight rise and the tower supports go quite high for a family coaster, and is very well done. I’d recommend the middle island for a ride like that.

I’m most intrigued by the suspended coaster and I’m not sure why. Suspendeds tend to be on the gentler side, but with a few exceptions. I’m not entirely convinced that we’d see a ride as dynamic as they promise. I like bike rides, though. There’s something kind of precarious about them. I haven’t tried Tron but I have Hagrid’s and a couple of those Zamp motor bike rides. But bikes in the air? If they were to hand me that concept I’d go straight for a sci-fi flying bike kind of thing. I suppose the island would also do for that, but I can’t reference the ride system or potential layout to know if it would even work.

In February I had my first ride on Knott’s Pony Express and while really cute, it didn’t do too much for me. It was a super slow day there and that ride opened late and had a really long line compared to the walk-ons around the rest of the place. One and done for sure.

I don’t get those surveys. I have a season pass but maybe I’d have to actually use it for them to notice me.
