The cable snapped again...

I don't come bearing any visual evidence of the cable being broken because I didn't have a camera with me today, but I would hope that my long posting tenure here would dispell any thoughts that this is a hoax.

Today the ride went down because the cable broke. The cable was hanging down where it enters the motor's room and it was all coiled around itself. It seems as though that they were trying to make quick work of getting it replaced. Hopefully this won't cause too much downtime for the ride. Last year when it snapped, didn't they have it up within the week?

i think last time when the tire flew off and the cable snapped wasn't it down for almost a month.
I see a crane by the station. Don't know why its down, but whatever it is, it's probably not good. *** Edited 6/5/2004 11:38:02 PM UTC by Helochinkgoal***
damn your right the crane doesn't look good and i was supposed to go the 11-13 its a good thing i have till the 8th to cancel
I cannot describe what I am feeling right now... I am going tomorrow, and probably won't be back until next year.

That is if this is true.

By "the cable," that means which one? There are three of them. Two pull, one is the return cable.

The repair of the cable is easy. The concern is if something else breaks.

Man this sucks. If its not up by the 16th, it will be the second year I have not been able to ride it.

Raptor, rules the sky!

By "easy", what do you mean?

I'm going tomorrow and coming back on Friday, so I AM PRAYING that they are going to be able to fix the cable "easilly".

We're going tomorrow also, so how "easy" is easy. It definately looks down looking at all the cams there is'nt anything going on. Fill us in Jeff.
My heart sank when I read this. I can only hope that they have it up by the 13th, or this will be my second year of not being able to ride. :((( I can only make it once a year. Maybe next year I should come later in the season. :((( I also hope that no one gets hurt by these cables snapping. It's possible, isn't it?
Wow, can't believe it. When did it snap?

What is Jeff the coaster king.;) He wasn't even there, I assume from his last post, I think we'll find out more when people who were at the point late tonight come back.

WOW, I can't believe that. I felt like somthing was going to happen. It was running great this week, My last day was yesterday. It broke down once or twice, once at night before the park closed. Somthing with the launch, they had engineers looking at the launch.

We got really lucky, we picked the time right before this happened. TTD ran amazing this week, Other then the rain downtime and a few small breakdowns, It was great.

I don't want to sound dumb but what coaster's cable snapped? Millennium Force or Top Thrill Dragster?
Good point topthrill. So who knows what?
I was there today so hopefully I can help explain what happened. At about 2:15 to 2:30 Dragster went down. The ride host at the entrance to the ride said that the cable that is attached to the catch car was only holding on by a couple of threads. I had a freeway pass for 6-7 and at that time they had the catch car out and put on the track and were working to get the cable out of the way so they could replace it. We left the park at about 9:30 and there was still parts of the ride all over the place.
I asked the ride op if Dragster would be open tomorrow and she said she wasn't sure but it wasn't looking good.

On a side note Dragster was running well before the incident. I got in line about Noon, the sign said a 2.5 hour wait. I was off the ride at about 1:05. No breakdowns, no rollbacks, and launching was at about a minute or so apart. *** Edited 6/6/2004 4:33:12 AM UTC by wingnut*** *** Edited 6/6/2004 1:28:39 PM UTC by wingnut*** *** Edited 6/6/2004 1:30:06 PM UTC by wingnut***

Ok, so no snapage. That is a relief. The coiled up cable by the motor room that Cp_bound described was probably a stage of the cable change and was controlled. This is simply a hypothesis though.

I guess it wasn't as bad as it seemed. Thank god because if I wouldn't of been able to ride it any the 5 days I am going to be there I would've been mad.

They were working on it really hard the half hour or so that I watched them working on it. So hopefully this downtime won't last to long.
It was kinda cool watching them replace the cable, not something that you see everyday.

I guess repairs went better than expected last night, it went from the ride op saying tomorrow (meaning today), didn't look good for the ride to be open, to it will be open today with intermittent breakdowns for adjustments. Good work by the maintenance crew that made this possible.*** Edited 6/6/2004 1:34:43 PM UTC by wingnut*** *** Edited 6/6/2004 1:38:03 PM UTC by wingnut***

Wait, so right now is it up or not??? I already got to ride it this season but I think it still kinda sux that the cable might've snapped again. I hope they can get this little bug worked out...
It looked like one of the cables broke or came lose or something like that (the one they did NOT replace last seasonn is my guess). I saw one still attacked into the engine room and the other hanging down. A few hours later, one was gone and the other was hanging down. So it looks like both launch cables were replaced. I watched the repairs for about a good 30 minutes a few times in th evening. I was hoping to get to see in the engine room :P
