The auto spiel days....

What did everyone think of this? It didn't seem to last many seasons as I remember....

I hated the auto spiels, made the experience cold and impersonal. Much nicer to have a real person talking to you and if the spieler is good, it really adds to the fun atmosphere. A few of the people on Gatekeeper last year were awesome with the crowd.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

There was a script that we had to memorize at the beginning of the season. By mid June we all had our own version of the spiel. The comedians surfaced real early.

I wish some employees would slow down a bit when they spiel. I already know what I'm doing since I've been to the park more than 100 times by now so it wouldn't really be for my benefit but there are some people you simply can't understand.

12 years since I worked at the park, and I still have the go-kart spiel memorized.

The amount of time they have to say what they need to say and do the checks they need to do is a determining factor.

My personal favorite are the employees who speak very poor English, and offer an unintelligible spiel to the ride guests. One might think in this day and age they would be concerned about someone not understanding and getting hurt, but I guess they have compensated for that with more seatbelts and contraptions, and much slower ride cycles!

^They seem to like putting those employees on Scrambler and Calypso. I can never understand a thing they say.

^ Yes, always Calypso.

Even if I can't understand a word they are saying, I would never replace the human-spiel for an auto-spiel.

It's part of the experience. Pete said it all, of course, but it just cheapens the overall experience.

Promoter of fog.

Disney is home of the auto-spiel and I think it serves them well.

I do like the amped up spiels at some of the bigger rides, to get the crowd going. But for rides like Calypso, Matterhorn, Super Himalaya, etc, just give me an auto spiel, so I can understand it better. Oh, and while you're at it, HOW ABOUT ONE MORE RIDE ATTENDANT so it doesn't take 10-15 mins to cycle a ride!

Are they planning on auto spiels with the new TVs in the queues?

I roll my eyes when I hear an auto-spiel. They're extremely boring and just get annoying. I always like when the ride attendants make (corny) jokes or compare their ride to other rides in the park. I also enjoy when they ask who the first-time riders are, it's cool to see who is riding for the first time.

Enjoy the rest of your day at America's Rockin' Roller Coast! Ride On!

^one if the best comparisons/corny jokes I've heard was on Gemini, a ride op said "enjoy your ride on the tallest, fastest roller coaster in the world..... 34 years ago"

What's weird about Calypso is that it has an auto spiel that is encouraged to be used

I only had five internationals out of 14 crew members, you're more often bound to get someone stateside. However I'll say this, if you can't understand the spiel and have questions regarding the information they're giving you, there's a riders safety guide you can get, several safety signs before the station, and as always you can ask any ride op for assistance. CP won't stop using internationals, they help staff the park and honestly I think provide an awesome atmosphere, I learned so many different lifestyles on point. I mean you eventually mingle with everyone at some point it's fantastic. I don't know why alot of enthusiasts are so anti internationals. I loved my internationals. They brought new stuff to the table, they were fun, exciting, and you can learn stuff from them. One of my guys said welcome back in Polish, it was pretty cool being honest. People getting all flustered over the internationals is like the people flipping out about the gays on here that has happened before or around when Fathers Day hits..Dunno why people are so rude and judgemental about it all..

Last I checked Matterhorn runs two ride ops a good bit of the time..Super doesn't need two ops...It never took 15 minutes to load a cycle, ever..well maybe if I had a cycle of idiotic people, but two people on a ride isn't going to solve that at all..Seriously though if you even had two ops, it's a low capacity flat ride. The only time I had lines were weather, busy busy days, or if riders like Dragster were down and we're right nextdoor. If you can't wait maybe 10 minutes or a bit for a minor flat..How do you wait in line for a coaster awhile..must be a FL+ I bet ;)

I always kinda thought that legal disclaimers was the reason CP attempted to switch to auto-spiels (or at least part of the reason). I seem to remember that many included info about who should not ride (back problems, pregnant women, etc, etc) which is definitely not included with the ride op spiels now. I'm glad it didn't last too long.

Dude, devarious, calm down a bit. You managed to take my complaint about understanding riding instructions from internationals, to suddenly saying I'm "anti-internationals". That's a big stretch, even for you. All I was saying is, I can't understand their speech sometimes. They should learn to speak slower, or pronounce words right, you know, basically, speak our language, in our country, in a way that is understandable to the people they are serving. That's all.

I stand by my statement of the flats being understaffed most days. I think you will find most people here agree with that statement.

And I've never bought FL nor do I intend/need to.

You weren't the only one above on here or others complaining. Nor is it the first time this topic has been brought up on this page.

I understood them quite fine working and listening to them everyday, I suggest cleaning your ears or getting a hearing test ;)

Also again, there is a riders safety guide, several signs, and other ride ops that will be able to assist you.

Also if you really need to listen to the safety spiel on how to properly secure loose articles, restraints, and small safety rules included with a spiel, how are you a coaster enthusiast. You're telling me you don't know how to secure a PTC lapbar ;)

Winkies included for obvious reasons

Personally, I prefer to misunderstand the audio safety instructions rather than have them give me the wrong food because they didn't understand what I ordered. :)
