the ads

Hi,

I am really interested in joining your forum. The only thing that is really stopping me (as well as some others) is the pop up ads.

I understand that you are trying to offset the costs of keeping a site up and running; however, is there value added when it prevents others from joining?

Have you tried any other revenue generating options (such as you have with the google ads etc.)?

Just my thought. I look forward to contributing to your site.

I have the google toolbar which stops the popups from coming on, but if you're interested in the site then pay the $12 every year to make them go away. At the same time you support the site. I want to do that though $12 is hard to come by when you have to find a job.

What he said... this is our alternative:

Walt and I both have our own motivations for running this site, and even though I suspect that the financials are the secondary reasons, we still need to get paid. SQL Server licenses, high resolution digital cameras, Photoshop, Visual Studio... these all cost money. While we enjoy ourselves, we also have real-life financial obligations like mortgages and families, so the hobby can't take away from that.
