Testing has begun

While not the most exciting news on the planet, I thought I'd share that Mantis and Corkscrew have been testing.

Oooooh... Ahhhhh...

Magnum, Raptor, and Millennium Force have done it within two months of their opening but it hasn't happened to Mantis until today! After five full seasons Mantis has finally rolled back. Combined with 60mph winds and a greased track Mantis rolled back today, it didn't make it through the first vertical loop!

Hey red garter Rob, what ride did you roll back on?
I rolled back on Volcano, I was in the front seat and it was my first launch ride ever!

How do they remove the passengers from the train during a rollback and how does the train get back to the station? Do they have to bring in some type of crane to pull the coaster through or do they just take the train off the track and put it back on?
Last Friday, it was kind of like Spring for me because, they were testing the Demon Drop, Mantis, Corkscrew, Jr. Gemini, and Woodstock's Express. From what I was told last week the Jr. Gemini rolled back almost everyday. It was weird two weeks ago cleaning up all of the leaves out of the lagoons, over by the Mine Ride. There was on water there but it was just odd.

superdisk..Mantis had no passengers yesterday as it was just cycling in testing but yes they have to empty the trains before they can "crane" them back in a roll back situation.

I know there were a couple of times last season in October when we feared a roll back on Raptor due to the high winds. We couldnt send out a train less than half full and at one point we had to "use" the passengers as weights and let them off on the runway so we could do a transfer.
The 1st hill on Mantis is my favorite inversion I would have LOVED to been on it, it would have been too cool rolling backwards!
Oh well I am sure there was a Banshee riding!! And the one advantage of Banshee's riding, you dont have to unload them, they can just fly off.

Got my chaps, whip and spurs--LET'S RIDE!!
I remember back in 1999 I beileve when they were running Magnum with one train and the winds were so high it barely made it up the 2nd hill, it was during october if im not mistaken.

Ah yes, Dan, ShiveringTim and I were there that day. Good times. It was allegedly the first time they did one-train operation in five years. They wouldn't send a train unless it was full. Hard to believe we made it back to the station. Of course, we were all hoping for a little Ocean Motion action at the bottom of the first hill!

Those were the most memorable Magnum rides I've ever had. The entire ride was dead except for thrill of barely making it over the 2nd hill which more than made up the lackluster 2nd half that day.

Why the heck were they testing anything in the 50mph gusts of yesterday?

Thats awesome that some of the rides at Cedar Point are beginning to test. Does anyone have a video on the Internet of a coaster doing a roll-back? I know, its not hard to imagine the rollback (you just go backwards), but it would be interesting to see.

I have a quick question. If the winds were really 60mph, why in the heck would they be running the rides at all? That's a little rique if you ask me. Perhaps it cause its more insulated in the interior of the island, unlike Magnum, Raptor, and part of MF.

Yeah, I don't get that either. There were a few blown-out windows here in downtown Cleveland this morning. Yesterday afternoon I went down to the park past the Rock Hall and almost got tossed into the lake. The inner harbor was choppy. That never happens! It's usually smooth as glass.

If Cedar Point was anything like the downtown lake shore, I can't imagine what they were thinking that they would test anything tall.

I took a trip to Battery Park this afternoon. I noticed some work being done on MF's first turn. Cranes were clearly visable inside the first turn. Power Tower was testing the drop while one of the cars sat at the top of the space shot side. Thats about it for ride testing (at least what I could see from the other side of the bay).

I also took a lap around the parking lot, stopped to look around. Lot's of activity today, delivery trucks, construction and landscape work in full swing. The park is coming alive for sure. It was nice to see that the construction on 2 seems to have FINNALY been cleared, with the exception of a few orage barrels it's much nicer now. Also they were doing some resurfacing work on the brigde in front of TGI Fridays. All and all it was a nice trip, shot some good video at Battery Park and from the parking lot and chausse.

Have a great summer everyone!
