test seat vs. real seat

Has anyone else had the problem with fitting in the test seat and not fitting in the actual ride? My boyfriend fit (after a little work) in the test seat but was at least an inch away on the ride. I fit in the test seat without a problem but on the ride it takes a bit of work from me and the ride op to get the belt fastened.

Has anyone else had this happen? Are the belts slightly different on different seats?

I've seen that happen a lot this year. I personally would think that they are the same otherwise it would defeat the purpose of a test seat, however I do hear a lot of "I could fit in the test seat, why not here on the real ride?"

That would be a good question to ask customer service.

Ohio State, here I come!

They are exactly the same, minus the locking mechanism on the real harnesses.... If you noticed the test seat has been green from time to time, the usual one is black (the black one gets beat up and needs new foam on the sides evey now-and-again). The green one on there is a replacement seat for the actual seats on the ride. They are the same width, depth, length and height, to the millimeter, We've even personally measured with a tape measure.

Awwwww man, I think I got dain bramage!

Well, Wicked Twister had the seats redone in 2002, so they might not have bothered changing the test seat, so they were different...

I think it might have something to do with adrenaline. When you're at the test seat, you aren't as hyped up. When you're at the ride, You're pump up a little bit. A biological thing, I believe. In periods of anxiety, your body goes through several "morphs". One being chest swelling. As in, "make yourself appear larger to fend off the enemy." Like cats arching their backs, and/or bears standing on their hind legs.

Another of these "morphs" is that blood flow to the skin surface, and eyes (see Millennium Force "black/brown out post) is restricted in order to reduce bleeding from gaping claw wounds.

I wach way too much TLC. ;)

Why do you people keep saying the seats were redone..... there is nothing different at all, SAME SIZE

This was a hot topic at Coastermania Q&A. I guess it was in the first session since it's not on Dave's typed version of the second session. Basically, Monty said that they have never shortened seatbelts on ride like MF and WT. He mentioned they have measured each seatbelt and compared it to the test seat and they were the same. It came down to how the hole was drilled and the angle of the bolt in the seat holding the seatbelt.

It was the first Q&A.

To make extra sure, I believe you can go up the exit of most, if not any ride, and ask to test a seat before waiting in line, even if there is a test seat at the entrance. The test seats can't account for such things as wheel wells, or the seat in front of you, etc etc anyway. Always good to make sure before waiting that 10... 20... 60... 120 minutes.

When did they move the test seat?

It was moved in the middle of the season ( I want to say late June, but that's relying on my not-so-keen memory only) in order to make it so only one ride host has to be at the entrance. Prior to that, there were two host at entrance: one to do the height checking and bag rejecting and the other to do the test seat.

I never saw this thread when it was originally posted, but the belt length was most certainly not the same length as those on the ride last year. I had a friend who couldn't even get it close on the test seat, but had no problem on the ride itself.
