I'm not one to complain to the park or anything, and I've always loved every cariacture drawing I've seen, but today at the park I wanted to buy my girlfriend a cariacture drawing because she's never had one done, and she loves the ones of me and my brother. So we go to get it done and the guy gives us options and we requested a picture of her on Top Thrill Dragster. The guy did not seem happy about the request for whatever reason (like I understand it's completely ridiculous to ask for a cariacture of you on a roller coaster at an amusement park), so he sighs and begins drawing. Not only did the cariacture not represent her one bit, but all of the background was random lines that he colored yellow and red (not kidding, a 5 year old could do better in the background). I'm too nice of a guy to tell the man to his face that the drawing was awful, so I paid, said thank you, and walked away. My question now is, do you think I could take the drawing to a different cariacture stand and politely say we weren't happy with the other guys drawing and request for a redraw? Or would that be a guest services request?

Guest services probably can't help, the caricatures are a separate concessionaire (Kaman's Art), but I bet you could get some satisfaction from another stand. If they seem hesitant ask them to talk to their manager Jamie Smith (she's a very nice lady and an excellent manager) Just make sure you tip the second artist for a job well done when they do a good job.
Most of their employees are excellent artists, but not all of them are great at caricatures.
Thank you very much for the advice. We did end up going to guest services and they made a call for us. The guy that they sent us to was glad to do it and did a great job. We tipped him and left satisfied.

Awesome!
So it doesn't surprise people to wait two hours to get in the parking lot, but it's a shock when everyone leaves at the same time and it's takes that amount of time to leave?
Sorry, my bad on the wrong thread post. :(

:)
I would just like to say to CoasterKyle, however, that how you handled this situation was a nice story to read...nicely played, and I'm happy to hear how it all turned out.
Promoter of fog.
Everything turned out wonderful. I was very happy with how guest services helped and how the cariacture company helped. I even filled out a certificate of appreciation for the lady who helped me at guest services and the gentleman, who was extremely nice, that drew the second cariacture. I'll try and post a before and after picture soon!

The Kamans people are very professional, if you would've just let the artist that did the original drawing know they would've given you a new artist. You would've also helped that artist know that they weren't giving expected results.
You wouldn't have had to bother guest relations or Jamie at all, would've been handled at the register.

My wife and I had one done when we where at the park and she was exactly thrilled by it either. She refused to say anything because the artist was a really nice guy and we had a nice convo the entire time he was doing the work. The issue she had with it was one of her eyes came out huge compared to the other, almost "cracked out" looking. I think she made it a bigger deal than it was and she settled on the fact that is a caricature and supposed to be funny. Ours was done in frontier town by the glass shop
I wouldn't waste time or money on one of these. It usually isn't very good, so I don't care for sketch artistry. Except....
One of my favorite things to do is to walk up and stand behind the artist, look at the sketch, and widen my eyes. Then look at the subject(s) in the chair. Then look back at the sketch. Eyes even wider. Then look back to the subject, give em a half-baked sympathetic smile, then quickly move on.
As I walk away I can just feel the squirming from the chair...
We have 11 of those sketches hanging in our family room. Two are hubby and myself, and the rest are kids. We started getting the kids one at age 5 and get one every three years or so. Once my son is 18 next year, the "set" will be done. Of all those sketches there is not a bad one among them! Our pics are practically perfect and look exactly like us. The artists have never once frowned or looked exasperated by any request we've made, and we've got some doozies! Plus, they've been helpful. My hubby and I wanted ourselves pictured on Magnum. The nice guy at the front of the park suggested that we go to the stand near Magnum and have one of them do it since "they look at it all day", so that's what we did. Again, we love them!
Glad everything worked out for you in the end!
Okay so the first link is the original drawing. The picture of the person itself isn't bad art, except it makes her look 50 years older than she actually is, as well as her face being expressionless. The background I think is just awful and extremely sloppy, with the poor attempt of a cloud on the left, and Dragster.

The new picture is fun, silly, well drawn, and captures her character very well. We were very happy with how this one turned out.

I think it will look great right next to my caricature!
