The Banshee thread reminded me of something similar with Magnum. I once had a newspaper article on the Magnum circa 1989, that quoted a park official stating Magnum was initially going to be called Psychopath, but was changed for political correctness / sensitivity. The Psychopath name didn't go as far as Banshee- it was never announced to the public to my knowledge. The impression I am under from memory (and it's been awhile) is that is was a working name while the ride was being planned and/or developed.

Anyone have any info on this? I wonder if there was ever any internal conceptual artwork or logo created. That would have to be worth some coin!

While we're on the subject of Maggie's inaugural, anyone remember the comet-like lighting streaks on the first hill that were later changed to conventional walking rope-light kind of lights. Wonder what caused that change. The original lighting really added to the mood.

The chasing strobes on the lift was a great feature at night. As for the reason they're no more? Maybe a cost issue for maintenance, I don't know.

I've heard that it was supposed to be called Psycadelica, not Psychopath a while back.

I'm pretty sure the reason they stopped using chasers were because if was costly to replace them, and the maintenance men got tired of walking up and down the lift every night to switch them out. Having done it a couple of times myself, I could imagine how much of a pain it would be to have to do that several times a week, at night even.

I never heard an official reason why they got rid of the chasing strobes. My assumption was that it was a hazard to epileptics. They could choose not to ride to avoid the strobes in the tunnels, but to avoid the ones on the lift hill they'd have to stay away from the park entirely. Just a guess though.

Its possible that those names (Psychopath, Psycadelica) were on the "short list" of ride names for Magnum. Ones that sounded cool, but upon furter review just weren't right.

Well, that wouldn't explain the strobes underneath maXair that practically make the entire gondola flash. Not to mention the new chasers on the updated games midway and SkyRide refreshments.

I don't have any epilepsy problems, but those blue ones on SkyRide Refreshments next to Corkscrew get me... if I so much as glance at them at night, I'm like a deer in headlights.

The strobes on the lift were removed for more than one reason, including (but not limited to) the fact that every time the ride suffered a lightning strike they'd lose a strobe controller.
