Tax from the governor

You are correct Rob it was $42 last year. Discounts in the Getaway Guide were $10 and if I remember correctly, I think the Pepsi can discount was $13 in May and the first part of June. We have season passes so I'm going from memory of what I read as far as the Pepsi discount goes.

And the group/Pepsi can/Meijer presale/AAA discount will be...?

Group Sales ticket prices and incentives vary for a variety of reasons, including (but not limited to) who is in your group, how large your group is, and what day of the season you're planning to visit the park. You can check the price rates on cedarpoint.com (just click on the big "Group Sales" icon), but unless you place an advance reservation for tickets, your group won't qualify for those prices.

However, the Group Sales Booth does sell walk-up rate tickets if you don't want to make an advance reservation. Walk-up prices are slightly higher than reservation prices; this year, walk-up tickets are $36 per person.

So you see my point. There are two prices: there is the posted price, which most people don't pay (because most people are entitled to *some* kind of discount) and there is the discounted price that most people pay. The discounts are not all the same, and CP has changed their rules in the past few years so that many of their discounts do not apply on Saturday. But even so, the discounting has gotten a bit out of hand. Most of the time, since sales tax does not apply to the ticket price, it's no big deal. But when you start to apply the State sales tax, it makes a significant difference, because the tax applies to the non-discounted price.

So pull a Kennywood. Set a lower gate price, with a higher price for Saturdays, and make the discounts smaller. Why give the State more than they deserve?

--Dave Althoff, Jr.

Dave,

Your point is well made but I would argue with you about the "number of dicounted admissions"...The actual number of FULL PRICE admissions are quite higher than you would think. CP has maintained the integrity of the gate price and have also "controlled" the discounts.

NO WAY will CP LOWER the gate price (or should they...get what you can, I say)...I do not think this TAX will be implemented but we probably will see some sort of "tourist tax" in OHIO if not this year, next. Some sort of set dollar amount per admission (like most cities do when you rent a car).

OldCPer, I know you have seniority around here, but I do not see where throwing people's small mistakes in their faces to embarass them is in the Terms of Service either. Making petty corrections on honest mistakes is just a cheap way to make someone feel bad about themselves.

On another subject, people who have to correct people's spelling mistakes to feel good about themselves should seek professional help.

And you think telling Red Garter Rob that he needs professional help is any better?

No it wasn't a comment directed at any specific person. Since I've been posting here I've seen it be a consistent problem; people correcting other people of innocent mistakes. It's not just one person or three people. It's become a habit in these forums that make people not want to be a part of your community. I've never been corrected, (although I'm sure I've made many mistakes here,) but I've never felt 'welcome' here, and I'm not the only one. With that, I say Aidieu to your 'clique' and move on to forums where people view posts for their ideas and thoughts, and not their small errors.

OldCPer, Vanessa does make a valid point. While stuff like "eye h@t3 u, u 5uxors!!!!!!11!" is totally inappropriate, some people on this site and its sister take it a little too far and point out people's small typos. It wouldn't be so bad if these folks were consistant, but they seem to only point out the mistakes of those that they are currently disagreeing with. Almost as if they have no counterpoint to proffer, so they resort to critzizing. I mispell stuff all the time (I *know* I do). And I see others do it too on occasion. But I think one needs to look at the totality of a person's post(s), before jumping on them as a TOS violator. Even the TOS is forgiving of occassional typos.

Well. . .even though I am just an uninvolved bystander. . .

. . .the original "correction" by Rob was made to a post that came from a "news" source.

So, yes, correcting a spelling mistake (or at least showing that there WAS a spelling mistake) in a "news report" is probably a good thing to do.

But that's just me.

I understand the pointing out of spelling and grammar errors can get old, and I do agree with you that some people go overboard.

BUT, there is a nice way, and a nasty way to do it. I didn't think Rob's comment was in the least bit nasty, but I DID think Vanessa's comment was.

This IS a community. People who cannot take any bit of criticism, or get easily embarassed or offended, and then whine about it need to get a clue. The world isn't filled with padded corners. Deal with it.

Seniority? Is that like an AARP discount or something? That discount at Denny's on the Grand Slam breakfast?

Okay, Vanessa--I'll quit teasing long enough to say that the so-called regulars tweak each other's noses all the time. Don't take it so seriously. Isn't the fact that people will sit and talk about freakin' rollercoasters all winter silly enough already?

Let's get back to the topic at hand...

This is what happens when you have a Republican at the helm - they lower taxes for corporations and raise the taxes on the citizens.

Actually, I don't think it's a party-line issue at all. But it does make a pretty good case against term limits. Who does the Governor answer to when he knows he can't be re-elected?

But yet the biggest complaint about Pres. "Dubya" is his "reckless" cuts on personal taxes...

To think one of Taft’s platforms last election was “no taxes” and even labeled his opponent as “Taxin Tim Hagan.” Now Taft is taxing everything he can think of

.

Now anyone can see why I HATE almost any politicians with an extreme passion! They LIE as bad as humanly possible to get votes. I did NOT vote at the last presidential election because they can NOT be trusted!! Both major parties are for the rich any way you slice it and do not care how bad they hurt the working class. Senetor Wellstone is probalbly the only honest one that ran even though I don't agree with his pro-choice issue. At least he did not lie as much as most if at all! I think the plane crash was rigged by some corrupt idiot that didn't want him to win! :-(

A tax on amusement park tickets, which are already $43.95 for 2003 would severely hurt Cedar Point. You already have people who complain that going to an amusement park is too expensive.

As far as the political side of things, Taft's "tax-mania" shows how sorry the Ohio State government is. Republican, Democrat, or Independent, Ohio needs new leaders to help lead our state back to its original glory.

Well. . .just for the state's defense. . . Ohio, Michigan, and almost every other state in the USA is facing a biiiig deficit for the next year or two. And things that might have been tax free may be getting taxed. The money has to come from somewhere. . . sometimes things have to get 'worse' before they get better.

Just tax the rich!!
defict.. simple.. cut your spending.. If you or I spent more than we made in the same proportions as these people. We'd be in jail..
