I've been that way before but i want to make sure i'm correct with what i'm saying before we head out in the morning.
i'm coming from just south of detroit, we're taking I-75 down and if i'm not mistaken Oregon road which is rt.2 correct?
From what i remember rt.2 goes all the way to CP once you exit 75.
i've driven it before with my parents, but that was ages ago and i slept most of the way. I just don't want us ending up lost somewhere down the line.
Thanks in advance guys!
By the way if anyone spots me tommorow give a wave, i'll be sporting a blue tank top that says vixen and jeans, i hear it's supposed to be a tad chilly so i'm also investing in a CP hoodie. *** Edited 5/28/2004 1:08:10 PM UTC by PunkyPiko***
i feel like stupid not knowing but i'd rather ask then be lost.
If you like, you can also use the standard route that most folks from the north use, which is to get off at US 6, or SR 101. If you get off at US 6, follow it through Sandusky, and there will be signs directing you to Cedar Point. It will eventually lead you to First Street, which intersects at Causeway Drive by the "A" Frames. There is a light there, and you can make a left onto the Causeway from there.
If you get off on SR 101, which is the next exit past US 6, you will head east on SR 101, after turning left off of the exit ramp. This will intersect with US 6, and take you on the same route through town, again to First Street.
To get to SR 4, you must pass both US 6 and SR 101, but you will not pass US 250. Avoid US 250 like the plague! The real secret is to avoid State Routes and big highways as much as possible, and act like a local. Of course, I was born & raised in Sandusky, so it comes pretty naturally for me.
Either way, I suggest you leave early, as traffic will doubtless be heavy. There are some other routes through town, but I would hate to give you confusing directions and get you lost. You might consider buying a map of Sandusky while in town, and studying it. That way you can learn the "sneaky" ways the locals, and we ex-patriots get to the park while avoiding the traffic.
I haven't been up Toledo way in several years, but, instead of taking Route 2 through Oregon, you might consider taking I 75 down to I 280, and then 280 to SR 51. Head south on SR 51, and you can grab SR 579 at Southwyck Mall. SR 51 goes through Curtice, and pops you out on SR2, on that big curve a few miles west of Davis-Besse. This lets you avoid the Oregon slowdown. It seems a bit out of the way, but Oregon can be a real pain in the butt, and the detour is worth the hassle, in my view.
Hope we get to meet this weekend. If not, have a great time!

i myself am not the one driving, but i'm printing the directions you've given and my boyfriend can choose whichever route he wants.
anything that can help us avoid tons of traffic is a plus for me.
we're leaving here around 6:00 am which gives us MORE than enough time to get there for gates. i'm just hoping the holiday weekend traffic doesn't slow us down too much, with your tips it i think we can avoid nearly all of it!

Sorry about that! I'll be looking for you!

i've printed some street level maps to help us along the way, your directions are priceless though.
wish i woulda had the back streets in 2002 when we went nearly every week that summer.
that construction is killing me, i'm wondering if it will ever be done with.
which reminds me to ask, if anyone knows if the Rt.2 exit is still even open, or should i find a alternate way to reach that.
the only roads i know are alexis (sp?) and oregon.
i'm not very familiar with the area at all.

Tank's route through Toledo would save you some time, I'm sure with the holiday weekend 280 will be chaos.. I should know I live in T-town ;-) *** Edited 5/28/2004 11:49:02 PM UTC by Gatezz***
Edit: If you're comming from Michigan on I-75, going anywhere near Southwyck Mall sounds like a terrible route. I-280 is only a few miles from the state line comming down I-75. Southwyck Mall is on the other side of the city, practially in Maumee. You could be half way to CP by the time you make it all the way over to the Southwyck area. Not to mention the traffic in the Southwyck area is always far worse than anything I've ever experienced on Rt. 2 in Oregon. *** Edited 5/29/2004 8:45:19 PM UTC by Ralph Wiggum***
