superman ride of steel q?

The lap bars are the same as the ones on MF, aren't they? Why didn't they change the lap bars on MF since a man FELL OUT of one...

Becuase Cedar Point makes sure theres are shut and locked. and i think the guy fell out at Sex Flags becuase he wasnt practicing "safe riding habits" but i could be wrong.

Bad topic name. All I've read on the accident on S:ROS is that it was more Six Flag's fault than the lapbars or seatbelts. SF did the modification on their own I believe, Intamin just wants the shorter seatbelts, as we see on MF and TTD now.

Just as I was typing my response to this post I was wondering why it wasn't re-located here... now I have to retype it.. thanks mods... way to keep the site organized... geez. Anyway, I am suprised that while CP did replace the lapbars on MF this season they didn't make them more like Dragster's. Dragster's seem to fit more "around the legs" rather then just sitting on top of them.

The seats on S:RoS don't have the bars on the side like Millennium Force does. The guest was overweight, and his center of gravity was far above the lapbar. He was thrown/ejected out of the side of the train.

That's why the seat belt restrictions are in place. It would have been nice to see a modification this offseason, but oh well.

The lap bars and trains have evolved slightly with each new ride. A guy came out of the Darien Lake ride first. The lap bar did not close enough and there were no seat belts at the time.

A guy died when he came out of the Six Flags New England ride. He was also big, but the investigation seemed to indicate that the ride operator did not secure the lap bar and the park had belts on that train that were many different lengths, none of which were to specification.

It's also important to note that the trains on the Superman rides and MF were NEVER the same. Similar, yes, but the seats and floor configuration on MF were different from those three rides from the start. The trains on Dragster are different yet again, with the bent lapbars and maybe even a deeper seat. People who think they are the same should really probably take a closer look.

Millennium Force's seats are slightly deeper than the seats on S:RoS. Also, the sides come up higher. The floor on MF is designed so that your knees are forced to be more bent than on S:RoS.

By the time Millennium Force came around, Intamin was actually starting to get their lapbar design right. If you want to see crap for lapbars, check out the perfectly square, shallow seats without sides and no bent knees that you'll find on Superman: The Escape.

Dragster's seat design is much more thought out. The only beef I have with it is the fact that the headrests are too narrow and there's a point that digs into my shoulders that doesn't really need to be there.

Sorry, I thought this typo was hilarious. Sex Flags and practicing "safe riding habits". LMAO!

You do know that there is no true safe riding with Sex Flags. ;)

I was watching a video I recorded and a guy riding S:RoS wasn't secure at all. At any time with air time he would rise about 7-12 inches. It looked like he could get up and walk out of the train if he wanted to.

Yeah new year, and finally got my license, well back in august. Im in need of a trip to the park.

It was probably Paul "Media Whore" Reubens. I've seen that video and it's really pathetic how badly he is strapped in on that ride. I'm suprised the park let that video go and didn't make them reshoot it.

Yes it was that one. The park probably didn't care after all they look like they don't care about their safty record.

I live very close byto Darien Lake and go there often and I can say that the employees are not as "bright" as the employees at CP. (I'm gonna get in trouble for saying that) But it's true. I don't think they are trained the same way and would rather not have a confrontation of kicking someone off the ride for their size.

The New England guy that died was also metally handicapped and rode up the exit in a hoover round or whatever they are. He should never have been on that ride. If you hear testimony from the guy that was next to him, you would agree. The poor guy was trying to hold him in and the guy that died was unaware of what was going on. He never tried to hold on or anything.

Very sad, but the families of both people got huge settlements. My friend who is an EMT got the call for the Darien Lake incident and for his fall he wasn't too bad off. He only fell 15 feet. He also had to go testify at the trial.

After that DL added two seat belts and shin gaurds to hold you from the feet too. But when I ride it my butt does leave the seat but I always feel secure. But I'm not 300lbs.

Millenium force is nothing like SM:RoS. Seats are different and the elements are different.
