Sunglasses for night rides?

Hi all.. I have been reading about the bugs that come out at night and am planning some front seat rides this Friday and Saturday night on my first trip from California (if it's not raining!).

Can I wear sunglasses to protect my eyes from the bugs? Do they need to have a strap? What type of goggles look the least geeky if I end up going that route??

Thanks guys.

TTD, Maverick, MF and Power Tower require a strap in order to ride with sunglasses. Im not sure you need it though, do you know how unlikely a bug is to hit your eye, its a pretty small area of your face (unlike say an open mouth which takes up a lot of space.)

The park guide states that the following rides require glasses to be secured with a strap or they can't be worn: Maverick, Skyhawk, maXair, TTD, Wicked Twister, and Power Tower. No mention of Millennium Force. My brother and I have both worn them on there with no problems. I've never been told to remove them. Regardless, most times I don't wear them just to be safe.

The only time you might really need them on any of these rides is if you're sitting in the front seat (obviously skyhawk and maXair). But MF and TTD are the worst, and if you're sitting in the middle or back of the train, the bugs arent too much of a problem.

Millennium Force does not require a strap for your glasses. You must, however, wear them or place them in a pocket or waist pack. You cannot hold onto them.

Keep your mouth closed too! My friend got a bug stuck in her teeth on one of our night rides on MF last weekend. :)

Yeah, if you are riding in the front, then glasses aren't a bad idea. I'd recommend ones that aren't darkly tinted. I've got a pretty nice pair of orange tinted oakleys that I wear at the shooting range. The orange doesn't look as bad as clear ones (which make you look like you are about to use a weed-eater!). They work pretty good at night....not too bright, but you can see better than wearing dark sunglasses.

Just my opinion.

I always wear my sunglasses whether it is light, dark, raining, bug infested, or whatever. I even wear them on Disaster Transport. Hence my screen name. I wear them to keep my contacts in. I found that the wind on the coasters really bothered my eyes.

So if you see some fool wearing his sunglasses when it is pitch black out you can bet it is Shades:)

Did you hear he lost his left arm?

It's OK, though because he's "still got the right one, baby!"
