Sundays in August?

I've been to cedar point many times before, but mostly in the beginning of the operating season. I have however made one trip on a Saturday In august and learned my lesson. I'm going to cp, on Sunday august 14, and was wondering what you guys think the waits might be like? thanks...

Go State

I've gone nearly every Sunday this year and last, and in general, it isn't very crowded. That said, CP is trying very, very hard to increase Sunday attendance with promos (passholders can now bring a friend for $20 on Wed/Sun), so it could be more crowded.

Last Sunday was probably the busiest Sunday I have ever seen at the park. I have no idea what was going on, but the main parking lot was nearly entirely full. It could be more of the same in future Sundays, of course, but I don't suspect anything longer than an hour for MF.

I've gone on a Sunday in August, the past few years actually. Competed in the Vermilion Harbour Triathlon, then headed to CP afterwards to spend the night. After arriving and checking in at Breakers in the afternoon, I would head down to the pool area to take a nap or relax in that great big hot tub they installed a few years ago. I haven't bought a pass in the last few years, so would just buy a discounted starlight ticket at the hotel. After eating lunch and resting at the pool, I then head into the park after 5, and the crowds really aren't that bad.

A couple of years ago on an August Sunday, while riding Sky Ride, it broke down. Stuck up there for about 15 minutes, the ride then resumed operation, and a few park officials were standing on the north loading station platform. A very nice lady asked if we were ok, and then told us to just walk up the exit ramp on Millennium Force for a no line wait. She said to simply mention her name to the attendent at the MF unloading platform, where I grabbed a front seat. The operator than yelled out for any single riders, and a guy sat down in the seat next to me and happened to be from my home town. It was one of my most unique visits to CP!

I'm sure you'll wait less for coasters than you'll be waiting for Michigan State's next national championship ;)

Sunday's were always pretty good in the past, but it's hard to tell how long waits will be. Going to the park will still be better than going to work or church.

For the second Sunday in a row, CP was packed. MF had an entirely full queue. Is there some event I'm missing that caused this? I saw a local firefighters union was there today, and I'm totally willing to wait longer for these guys for all they do for us, but I can't believe they were that numerous.

Am I just not remembering last August very well? I could have sworn it tapered off after July, not increased.

Last August was busy when I was there, even the second trip late in the month with reduced hours.

It's getting harder and harder to hit a dead day at the park. Even when crowds are sparse, CP manages to screw you over by reducing capacity (ie # of trains) so you have to wait a while, regardless.

I don't think they are trying to screw you over, hehe. You are just saying it's hard to find a dead day that Cedar Point doesn't see coming as well.

Sunday in August are bad, lots of company outings and the "OMG school is starting soon" pressure.

Was thinking about going today, but on the way home from church I saw the traffic on Cleveland Road backed way back past my place. So I didn't go. Didn't it rain briefly this afternoon?

I left around 4 PM, so I didn't see any rain. It just wasn't worth waiting in line for 3 hours for MF. When Corkscrew has a full queue . . . yeah.

Yesterday was pretty crowded. However, there was a threat of rain on Friday and Saturday. That may have convinced some people to come Sunday instead.

That's true. I think it was actually less busy on Saturday than Sunday. I've yet to find even a semi-dead day at the park this year, but I'm determined to find one. :) I agree with others about the capacity issues though. Iron Dragon really, really needs three train operation.

Dragon's lines was the longest I've seen it outside Halloweekends.

It sounds like its about time to get the KI Fast Pass system up in Sandusky...

ID was full queue, but again, some of that is probably do to being at two train op. Regardless, it was packed. Main lot was completely full. Really hope it dies down soon. Millennium hasn't been less than an hour wait on Sunday for weeks.

Since when does any day in August have a slow predictable day? Outside of Halloweekends, I have always considered this the busiest month with people cramming in all the summer fun they can before school starts.

Sundays are generally better days, though...but in my experience not until later in the day when the resort crowds have thinned out from the busy weekend.

Promoter of fog.

I've always thought of July as being the crazy busy month, but the weather this year has been crap. If the heat index wasn't over 100, it was raining. Some days, it was both. So now that school starts in 2 weeks and it's down to the mere high 80s, people must be trying to squeeze in a visit. Parking lot looks pretty full today too.

Well, I'm sure CP is happy, anyway. :) I'm going down to KI in a week on Tues/Wed, and while I wasn't going to purchase their Fast Lane system, I just may to avoid situations like today. That looks really busy for a Monday.

Another factor I hadn't though of until now is that CP recently announced that passholders could bring a friend on Sunday's for $19.99. I'm not saying that's why it was busy. But, it certainly could have contributed.

The $19.99 deal is running at KI now too. And firefox15, every time I have gone to KI this summer during the week (4 times) it has not been bad at all. Nearly no wait for anything. If you have money to spare, go ahead and get the fast pass, but if you are tight on money, I wouldn't...

Or better yet walk around the park from 10 a.m. till noon and see if it is worth it to buy. The fast passes don't start till noon anyways, so you might as weel see if its worth it before you buy it and its too late.
